What’s your shaver?

By: Chris 20 July 2007 282 views 9 CommentsEmail This Post Email This Post

One of the chores that we guys do is to shave our mustache (hair on the upper lip) as well as our beard (hair on the lower chin). I ought to make that as distinct as possible because I have some friends who use it interchangeably and I don’t think it’s right because the two are just different.

Anyway some PGG reader emailed me asking what shaver do I recommend that is durable, inexpensive and easy to refill?

Well as for me, I would recommend Gillette Vector Plus. It’s cheap (costs around 42 Pesos), it’s everywhere (so it’s easy to refill) and the blades are inexpensive costing around 40 Pesos for a pair. Based from experience, using the shaver is fast, easy and very gentle on the skin.

Though the Gillette Mach 3 is of course a top-of-the-line shaver, I would rather use the Gillette Vector Plus because it costs little and it’s durable. Mine is already more than a year and I’m just loving it because it is a Gillette Vector Plus World Cup Limited Edition - perfect for a soccer fan like me!

As for the shaving cream, I use Gillette Foamy Lime. Smells good, gentle on skin and costs less - 50 Pesos which is good for about 6 months (depending on frequency of use). What more could you ask for?

And to finish off my shaving session, I sometimes use an aftershave though not always. So how about you guys? What do you recommend? Anyone here using Schick or other Gillette variants?

I used Schick only once and prolly never will again. Left me with nasty shave burns..ouch!

Got a Mach 3 that I use at home and a Sensor Excel @office. You can never go wrong with Gillette. But if you want a really close shave go to a Professional Barber, it will set you around 70 - 100Php.

What is your take on using electric shaver? Do you think it is better than the manual shaver? Thanks.

Hi, in my opinion electric shaver is usually best for travelers. If you like a very clean shave, manual shaver is recommended.

    Hi Ken,

welcome to PGG. I have never tried yet but they are selling some in appliance centers like SM or Abenson. They cost more than 1 thousand pesos
