I had a chance to ask gadget shops how much they are selling the new Nokia N8 – the latest Nokia smartphone. Surprisingly, it’s not that costly. It averages around 25,000 Pesos only.

Do you still remember the time of Nokia 7650, Nokia N93i, Nokia N95 and the likes? I remember that when these phones first came out, they cost around 40,000 Pesos during its first few weeks. Pretty steep. But I guess Nokia is really fighting hard these days to win back former Nokia owners after losing much of its customers to iPhone, Samsung and Android phones. They just had no choice but to make Nokia N8 cheaper even if it is a flagship, high-end phone.

If you ask me, the N8 is a great deal and its fairly low price is something we consumers could take advantage of. Here are some of its features:

AMOLED 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch

16 GB internal memory. Expandable via microSD card slot

12 Megapixel camera with Xenon flash

HD-quality video recording

3G, Wi-Fi and GPS-ready

Integrated social networking

Symbian^03 Operating System

FM Radio and Music Player

Although its features are almost the same with my Samsung Wave, I have to be honest that the most important feature of Nokia N8 which my Samsung Wave lacks is the Xenon flash. Xenon is so important when taking photos in low-lighting conditions and if you have a camera phone with Xenon, you don’t need to bring your stand-alone camera on trips because your phone will surely suffice. In the future, I might buy the N8 just because of its Xenon flash!

Now let me ask you: Will you buy the Nokia N8?

I just celebrated my birthday last August and it was indeed a blast! And to make it more memorable, I bought myself a gift - the Samsung Wave S8500 mobile phone.

I just celebrated my birthday last August and it was indeed a blast! And to make it more memorable, I bought myself a gift – the Samsung Wave S8500 mobile phone.

It is one of the latest from Samsung and it’s the most record-breaker phone I ever had for the following reasons:

1. It is my first non-Nokia purchased phone.

2. It is my first Samsung phone.

3. It is my first full touchscreen phone

4. It is the first phone I ever bought without doing some research and reading online reviews about it. What happened was, I saw it in the store, asked the sales clerk about its features and bought it in an instant.

So why did I fall in love with this phone? It is because of the looks and the features such as:

1. Super AMOLED Screen – it’s just super bright and brilliantly colorful. I feel like I’m holding a small Samsung TV. Surfing the web and viewing photos is such a pleasurable experience.

2. Multi-touch touchscreen – a feature similar to the iPhone wherein you use two fingers to zoom in and zoom out through pictures or web pages.

3. HD video recording – if you are like me who loves taking pictures and shooting videos of memorable events in your life, then this one is for you. The high-definition video (HD) is just awesome.

4. Alphanumeric keypad – I am not really a fan of QWERTY touchscreens. It’s a bit annoying when you don’t feel the key presses while you are typing on such a keyboard layout. But with Samsung adding the alphanumeric keyboard layout, I have the option not to use QWERTY. Plus with the super sensitive screen, it makes me more sane when typing long texts.

Aside from the above, the Wave also has the specifications that I can’t live without: Internet, Music player, FM Radio, 5 MP camera with flash, expandable memory, Wi-Fi, video calling and GPS. And in terms of performance, the phone is super fast with Samsung’s new operating system Bada.

The cost for all those features? Less than 20,000 Pesos only. Now, who wouldn’t buy it in an instant?

This phone is so damn gorgeous that I can’t get it off my head in the last 2 weeks. Who wouldn’t want to look at the glossy finish and the beautiful touchscreen?

By doing a bit of research, here are some of the most notable features I found regarding the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10:

Powered by Google’s Android Platform and a 1GHz processor

4-inch touchscreen display

8.1 Megapixel Camera

HSDPA/HSUPA (3.5G)

GPS

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack

Timescape & Mediascape UI – perfect for Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites addicts

1GB Internal Memory, upgradable by microSD memory card

However, as perfect as it may seem, there are just two potential drawbacks: no FM Radio and no video call camera in front! It may be a big deal for some (including me), but I think I can live with it if my phone is as powerful and as stylish as this one!

I hope to get this baby soon. I have already seen Sony Ericsson shops selling these for 32,700 Pesos and the lowest price I’ve canvassed around is 30,000 Pesos flat.

It has been like ages waiting for 5800 Xpress Music phone from Nokia and I'm very happy that it is finally here. Surprisingly, it's not as expensive as I thought it would be.

It has been like ages waiting for 5800 Xpress Music phone from Nokia and I’m very happy that it is finally here. Surprisingly, it’s not as expensive as I thought it would be.

At only 18,000 Pesos, it is hard to imagine that a new phone from Nokia containing cool music features would cost only this much. As what I have seen in the past from Nokia, I expected it to be more or less 30,000 Pesos. Anyway some of 5800′s nice features are:

3G with HSPDA
Touchscreen
Accelerometer sensor for screen auto-rotation
Up to 16 GB Memory Card (original package has 8GB Memory Card and 81MB internal memory)
Wi-Fi and bluetooth
3.15 Megapixel Camera with Carl Zeiss lens and auto-focus. Has a secondary camera for video call
GPS receiver
Plays MP3, WMA, WAV, EAAC, MP4, WMV, 3GP

While the features are really nice, the only thing that makes me wonder is why the internal memory is only 81MB? I think they should have added more since this is a music phone. But no need to worry since it has a memory card slot of up to 16 GB anyway.

And for some reason, I don’t understand why all music phones that come out are being compared to the iPhone? I don’t know but I think it’s weird. It just makes the iPhone more overrated. Just take a look at a spoof ad I found below from BlueTrigger.

Between this and the iPhone, which one would you choose?

I bet that a lot of guys out there never switch their home or car’s radio to the AM frequency band. Don’t worry, I’m one of them. Let’s face it. It’s boring. I’d rather listen to music than listen to radio news. But don’t get me wrong, I get news info from other sources – TV, newspapers and even the Internet. But just not on my music player or even my cellphone. It’s just not my thing.

However, Sony Ericsson seems to have revolutionized radio for our mobile phones especially for those who love news on the go.

So let’s meet the SE R300 – a cellphone unlike the ordinary. It has both AM/FM radio frequency band. So whether you’re a music lover or a news town crier, you’d surely love having both frequencies! If I’m not mistaken, it’s even the first mobile phone to have a built-in AM Radio and it’s very suitable for a lot of students who are always wishing for class suspensions during the rainy days.

Here is a list of other features of the R300. It’s really a minimalist yet unique phone!

-2G Network
-Polyphonic Tones
-1000 contacts
-8 MB internal memory – no memory card
-Bluetooth
-VGA Camera
-Music player
-FM/AM radio recorder

There’s also the SE R306, also a mobile phone with AM/FM radio but the only significant improvement to this is that it has a clearer, 1.3 Megapixel camera instead of a VGA one.

Question is, do you really need an AM radio in your phone?

It has been quite some time since I last posted about gadgets here on the blog. But just recently, I was struck by Sony Ericsson's new flagship phone called the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.

It has been quite some time since I last posted about gadgets here on the blog. But just recently, I was struck by Sony Ericsson’s new flagship phone called the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.

It appears to me that this is now the successor of the P-Series from Sony Ericsson. And guess what? This is the first-ever mobile phone from the company that uses Windows Mobile instead of Symbian Operating System. So what do we expect from SE’s new phone?

Windows Mobile 6.1 – new OS means better features? Well we have yet to see because as far as I know, Symbian is the most dominant OS in the mobile phone world so it has more support and more applications. The drawback with Symbian is that it’s a little bit slow. Perhaps Windows Mobile can change this?

Touchscreen – nothing really new about it since the P-Series used to have one. Remember the P900 phones? Nevertheless, touchscreens have become a standard these days.

QWERTY Horizontal keypad – this one’s unique and it made the overall look of the phone an eyecandy. Take a look at the photos below

3.2 Megapixel Camera – I am surprised that Sony Ericsson included only 3.2 Megapixels for this phone when their competitors already have 5 megapixels. Think about N95 and Samsung’s Omnia.

Expandable Memory

Bluetooth

GPS

USB 2.0 – allows your phone to be a mass-storage device

WiFi – for mobile Internet in the city’s hotspots

Music Player and FM Radio – for audiophiles!

While there’s no doubt that this phone is beautiful, the features are comparable to common phones today. I think Sony Ericsson is still trying to get used to the new Windows OS. According to SE, this will be released end of September 2008.

How about you guys? What do you think about this new phone?

The 3G iPhone has been so hyped these days in the technology-world but it’s quite sad that here in the Philippines, no one has even tried the product yet – well except to those who bought one abroad and have it hacked here in the country. Nevertheless, it was announced that Globe is the exclusive distributor of iPhone here but until when are we supposed to wait?

Luckily for those who are itching to buy a new touchscreen gadget, we have here a new one known as the Samsung i900 Omnia. It’s a touchscreen phone powered by Windows Mobile Operating System and promises to be a strong competitor to the 3G iPhone.

Its main features include HSPDA(3G), WiFi, 5 Megapixel Camera, 8GB/16GB memory, Media player and FM Radio. It appears to me that Samsung has been working very hard to get a share in the mobile market. I’m almost convinced that the next time I’d buy a phone, it would probably be a Samsung. It’s stylish and of course feature-packed.

Try to picture this: A new stylish phone from Samsung backed by Armani’s well-known brand. Meet the Samsung Armani P520

Samsung Armani as shown in Dustbowl

This is really surprising for me because Armani is more of a men’s fashion brand. And having a Samsung phone backed by Armani is something new. Guys who are fans of the brand will now have the option to match their suit with a phone.

What has this phone got? Well it’s a credit card-sized touchscreen phone with no keypads. It has a 3.15 Megapixel Camera and has the ability to play MP3′s. I don’t really expect it to be packed with features because stylish phones are usually simpler to use than high-end phones like the Nokia NSeries which are especially made for tech geeks.

Now my question: Since it appears to be a man’s fashion phone, would you opt to buy one?

For us guys, its another high-end tech toy that we drool over. Meet the Nokia N96 – the rumored successor of the all-in-one device we used to know as Nokia N95

Just less than a year after they released the N95 worldwide, they have already come up with a successor. Compared to the older model, the N96 has a 16GB built-in memory plus an additional slot for a memory card (something the N95 8GB edition lacks). It now has support for mobile TV as well as various video formats including MP4, Windows Media Video, and Flash Video. It also has two LEDs along with its camera for better pictures.

However, I think there is not much difference compared to the N95. So if you already own an N95 I don’t think it’s worth to upgrade to N96.

What do you think?

The Nokia 3500 Classic is a very beautiful phone. The silver lining on its edge, blue backlight on its keypads and black color gives it a very elegant and stylish look. My brother actually bought one for himself and is very satisfied with it.

The music player is very good. The phone also comes with a 256 MB memory card (which is contained in an expandable slot). This is awesome don’t you think? Where else can you find a 6,500 Peso phone with several features as these?
