Singapore is one of Asia’s fashion hubs and during the time I was there, I was lucky enough to witness the grand opening of Abercrombie & Fitch (A&F) – an American casual clothing retailer. They are a well-known clothing brand internationally and believe it or not, during their opening, lots of people (men and women) were lining up outside their store. The scenery looked like Apple’s launching of the iPhone – yes, they are that popular.

One of the things that attracted people to their store is the very fragrant scent. Apparently, Abercrombie sprayed their men’s cologne named “Fierce” all over the store. It just smelled so good that even people walking right outside the store were wondering who was wearing the perfume. Little did they know that it is the entire shop that was smelling so good.

And the strategy worked very well for Abercrombie & Fitch. Lots of guys (I included) soon found the men’s cologne, queued and bought it.

The sad thing is that there is no Abercrombie & Fitch store here in Manila so I just don’t know where to buy the fragrance once I use up the entire bottle.

Now speaking of A&F clothes, I’d say they are made of good quality but they are a bit pricey for casual clothes. Their shirts cost around 120 SGD (roughly 3,000 Pesos) making them not just an average brand but more of a luxury clothing. Not to mention that their sizes are usually bigger than what we have in Manila as their clothes are catered mostly for Americans so it is understandable that they have larger sizes.

All in all, I would recommend Abercrombie & Fitch for those who have extra money for luxury clothes and for those who need bigger clothes sizes than what we have in the Philippines. Also, I would like to reiterate that Abercrombie’s Fierce Cologne is probably one of the best men’s fragrances I have smelled so far aside from Lacoste Essential.

How about the scent? Davidoff Champion has one of the most masculine scents I have ever smelled on a perfume. It actually has some small notes which smell like an expensive aftershave – a smell that women like on men. Check out Davidoff Champion TV commercial below:





And thanks to that commercial, I just recently learned that Davidoff is pronounced as “Dah-vee-doff”, not the usual “Day-vee-doff”.

By the way, in case you are interested to buy, I think that there is a promo now wherein you’d get a free Davidoff headphones if you buy the big bottle of Champion. Not sure if this promo is still up but I was told that this was only good while the stock of headphones last.

Lacoste Essential Sport is a variant of Lacoste Essential which I also mentioned in PGG’s Four Picks on Men’s Scents back in 2009. I now have both fragrances and they both smell great. I initially thought that the two variants would smell almost the same but I was wrong. They smell differently. I realized that Lacoste Essential Sport has a stronger masculine scent than the original Lacoste Essential which has a “citrusy” smell. If you ask me which I like better, I won’t be able to decide because I love them both. But for now, I think I’m liking the “Sport” variant more due to the more manly scent that women like.

Lacoste Essential Sport was officially released last March 2010. According to the salesman of SM Department Store, this fragrance came out locally less than a month ago and SM was one of the first to carry the brand.

The perfume is available in 75 mL and 125 mL. I bought the bigger 125 mL because Lacoste is currently giving away a free messenger bag with every purchase of the big bottle.

Aside from the bag, I also received a free pocket-size perfume applicator which I can refill and take to a party so that it wouldn’t be such a hassle carrying the big bottle around. I guess I got myself a pretty good deal if you ask me.

One last thing. In case you are still wondering – yes, the smell of Lacoste Essential Sport is worth it!

Lacoste Essential

This is highly recommended when you go out on a date or for formal occasions. The scent is elegant, refined and manly. What’s so good about it is that it is perfect for the Philippine climate because the more you sweat, the better it smells on you. I’m sure you know by now that women are turned-on by the pheromones in men’s sweat so this one is really a must-have. In my own experience, I have received several compliments after wearing this perfume.


Bulgari Aqua Pour Homme Marine

A refreshing high-end scent for men which is suitable for daily use. It stays on for long so you wouldn’t need to spray every now and then. It’s kind of difficult to describe the “aquatic” scent so I suggest that it would be best for you to smell it in the perfumery section of department stores.


Mossimo Fusion

If you are an athletic guy looking for an inexpensive body spray, this one is for you. Best for guys who are always out on sports or gimmicks, this one is surely a must-have since it also smells better as you sweat.


Memo Rush

Recently released as a men’s scent, Memo Rush is also an inexpensive cologne which is best for daily use in the office or in school. After trying it a few times, I have noticed that wherever I go, people seem to be guessing who is wearing that fresh-smelling scent. This one is definitely worth the try!

This is what happened to me last week. lol! I am so excited about my new perfume that I didn’t realize that I oversprayed it the whole day. You see it all started when I went to office in the morning. After putting on a very few drops I started to love the scent. Afterwards I passed by one of my officemates and she told me “Damn Chris you really smell great!”. To my excitement and much flattery I started to spray more drops of perfume about every two hours until five in the afternoon when I was about to go home. It was then that I realized that I oversprayed it because by the day’s end, I smelled like a barber shop! (I hope you know what I mean). The smell was just so strong. lol
