I am currently checking out Globe Tattoo SuperStick – you know that cool portable wi-fi that you can carry around anywhere and which fits in your pocket? Yea, that’s it – another cool toy for the big boys.

I find it very useful especially that I am a men’s fashion and lifestyle blogger and at the same time a tech pro. You see, I really need to have Internet access wherever I go so that if I find something interesting to blog about or if I need to check my work emails, I can easily do it. As a matter of fact, I am connected to Globe Tattoo SuperStick as I am writing this post.

So what’s with Globe Tattoo SuperStick anyway? Check out its features:

1. Up to 3 Mbps Internet connection speed
In general, the speed is fast but the 3 Mbps part will depend on your location. If you are covered with Globe’s 3G network, the faster your Internet speed becomes.

2. Connect up to 5 devices to your portable wi-fi
This is the fun part. When I go out on trips, I could easily connect my laptop and my Samsung Wave to my Globe Tattoo SuperStick. Even my girlfriend connects her wi-fi enabled phone to my SuperStick (err, does it sound green? Sorry, didn’t mean to).

3. Postpaid plan costs 1,299 Pesos only
For unlimited Internet anytime, anywhere – the price of 1,299 Pesos per month would be “just right”. Note that the SuperStick device comes free but you have to subscribe to Globe’s service for 24 months.

Another interesting thing is that the Globe Tattoo SuperStick device comes with a rechargeable battery (similar to a mobile phone). So this means that you could carry your portable wi-fi anywhere without having to plug it in to a socket or to your computer’s USB. Awesome isn’t it? With the surge of Apple iPads, Samsung Galaxy Tabs, wi-fi enabled phones and laptops, this is definitely a must-have!

I started 2011 with a blast! I recently bought my newest toy – The Pioneer RSM400DV Mini Component System.

What is it? Look…

It’s a toy for the big boys – a beautiful DVD mini component system with a sound so good and crisp that you will feel like you are inside a club dancing all-night long. Just take a look at its features:

• 2 speakers with 1 subwoofer
• 5 functions (DVD & CD/Tuner/Cassette/USB/Aux)
• DVD/SVCD/VCD/CD/DIVx Playback
• USB Movie Playback (Divx)
• Direct USB to CD Recording
• WMA/MP3 Playback
• PhotoViewer (JPEG Playback)
• Integrated Dolby Digital Decoder
• 9 Sound Modes (User, Normal, Pop, Classic, Rock, Jazz, TODOROKI, DJ, Auto)
• MP3 Expander
• Advanced Sound Retreiver
• 50 FM/AM Presets
• GigaByte Music (Music DVD Playback)
• 1 Component Video Output
• 1 Composite Video Output
• 1 Aux In
• 1 USB Input
• 1 Heaphone jack
• Karaoke Function (2 mic / Volume / Echo)

There are just too many features and I haven’t even began exploring them all. The bottom line is – it is a perfect sound machine and an excellent DVD player. I feel the beat from my head to toes!

I also the love the way the speakers and subwoofers vibrate when playing music with strong bass. It feels like I’m in a club or a concert. I remember when I played “Club Can’t Handle Me” when I tested it before buying it in Abenson. All the sales clerk in Abenson went dancing crazily. It was like a party!

I had a chance to ask gadget shops how much they are selling the new Nokia N8 – the latest Nokia smartphone. Surprisingly, it’s not that costly. It averages around 25,000 Pesos only.

Do you still remember the time of Nokia 7650, Nokia N93i, Nokia N95 and the likes? I remember that when these phones first came out, they cost around 40,000 Pesos during its first few weeks. Pretty steep. But I guess Nokia is really fighting hard these days to win back former Nokia owners after losing much of its customers to iPhone, Samsung and Android phones. They just had no choice but to make Nokia N8 cheaper even if it is a flagship, high-end phone.

If you ask me, the N8 is a great deal and its fairly low price is something we consumers could take advantage of. Here are some of its features:

AMOLED 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch

16 GB internal memory. Expandable via microSD card slot

12 Megapixel camera with Xenon flash

HD-quality video recording

3G, Wi-Fi and GPS-ready

Integrated social networking

Symbian^03 Operating System

FM Radio and Music Player

Although its features are almost the same with my Samsung Wave, I have to be honest that the most important feature of Nokia N8 which my Samsung Wave lacks is the Xenon flash. Xenon is so important when taking photos in low-lighting conditions and if you have a camera phone with Xenon, you don’t need to bring your stand-alone camera on trips because your phone will surely suffice. In the future, I might buy the N8 just because of its Xenon flash!

Now let me ask you: Will you buy the Nokia N8?

I just celebrated my birthday last August and it was indeed a blast! And to make it more memorable, I bought myself a gift - the Samsung Wave S8500 mobile phone.

I just celebrated my birthday last August and it was indeed a blast! And to make it more memorable, I bought myself a gift – the Samsung Wave S8500 mobile phone.

It is one of the latest from Samsung and it’s the most record-breaker phone I ever had for the following reasons:

1. It is my first non-Nokia purchased phone.

2. It is my first Samsung phone.

3. It is my first full touchscreen phone

4. It is the first phone I ever bought without doing some research and reading online reviews about it. What happened was, I saw it in the store, asked the sales clerk about its features and bought it in an instant.

So why did I fall in love with this phone? It is because of the looks and the features such as:

1. Super AMOLED Screen – it’s just super bright and brilliantly colorful. I feel like I’m holding a small Samsung TV. Surfing the web and viewing photos is such a pleasurable experience.

2. Multi-touch touchscreen – a feature similar to the iPhone wherein you use two fingers to zoom in and zoom out through pictures or web pages.

3. HD video recording – if you are like me who loves taking pictures and shooting videos of memorable events in your life, then this one is for you. The high-definition video (HD) is just awesome.

4. Alphanumeric keypad – I am not really a fan of QWERTY touchscreens. It’s a bit annoying when you don’t feel the key presses while you are typing on such a keyboard layout. But with Samsung adding the alphanumeric keyboard layout, I have the option not to use QWERTY. Plus with the super sensitive screen, it makes me more sane when typing long texts.

Aside from the above, the Wave also has the specifications that I can’t live without: Internet, Music player, FM Radio, 5 MP camera with flash, expandable memory, Wi-Fi, video calling and GPS. And in terms of performance, the phone is super fast with Samsung’s new operating system Bada.

The cost for all those features? Less than 20,000 Pesos only. Now, who wouldn’t buy it in an instant?

Just want to share my latest toy. Meet the Sennheiser HD-408 headphones. Literally a dream come true. For me.

I seriously had first, second, third and even N thoughts whether to buy this baby or not. Dude, more than 2,000 Pesos just for a pair of headphones? You might think I have gone nutts but when you hear the sound quality of this high-end headphones, I bet you will surely have forgotten the price. It’s all worth it and highly recommended if you are an audiophile like me who breathes music.

I feel like I’m a DJ when I’m using it. I remember when I played Jay Sean’s Down using this headphones. The bass and vibration gave me the feeling like I was in some dance club partying. It has a superb crisp sound and it’s very comfortable and stylish to wear. When I brought this to the office, I found my colleagues begging to borrow it. Everyone else wants one too. I even recommended this to my closest friends (who are audiophiles like me by the way) and they bought one for themselves as well. If you are planning to invest in a good pair of headphones, I suggest you try this one.

Speaking of Jay Sean’s Down, I just remembered that he will be here in Manila for a concert on September 3. If you’re a fan like me, let’s go and watch!

This phone is so damn gorgeous that I can’t get it off my head in the last 2 weeks. Who wouldn’t want to look at the glossy finish and the beautiful touchscreen?

By doing a bit of research, here are some of the most notable features I found regarding the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10:

Powered by Google’s Android Platform and a 1GHz processor

4-inch touchscreen display

8.1 Megapixel Camera

HSDPA/HSUPA (3.5G)

GPS

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack

Timescape & Mediascape UI – perfect for Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites addicts

1GB Internal Memory, upgradable by microSD memory card

However, as perfect as it may seem, there are just two potential drawbacks: no FM Radio and no video call camera in front! It may be a big deal for some (including me), but I think I can live with it if my phone is as powerful and as stylish as this one!

I hope to get this baby soon. I have already seen Sony Ericsson shops selling these for 32,700 Pesos and the lowest price I’ve canvassed around is 30,000 Pesos flat.

If you have been following this blog long enough, you might remember that last year, I bought a Creative Zen Music Player (a player that’s very reliable). I chose it over iPod because the lack of FM Radio in Apple as well as having to use iTunes is a dealbreaker for me.

This year, if I were to buy an average-priced music player, I will be confronted by two tough choices – that is between Apple iPod 5th Gen Nano and Creative Zen X-Fi 2.

Apple iPod 5th Gen Nano

My girlfriend recently bought this new Nano and when I first heard that it had an FM Radio as well as a video camera, I had to confirm over the Internet if this was true to make sure that it’s not a generic mp3 player from China.

It looks like Apple has heard my voice requesting for an FM Radio. Hmmm, I know what you must be thinking. What’s with the FM Radio and why can’t I live without it? Well it’s because I love music and I get easily bored with old songs so I need to stay-tuned to music charts to get my daily dose of hits while on-the-go.

Anyway, here are some features of the iPod Nano 5th Gen

Built-in Speaker

Pedometer

Voice Recorder

Video Camera

One thing that bothers me with the camera is that it doesn’t capture still images. It’s all video. Weird.

Creative Zen X-Fi 2

I first heard about this from an officemate. He wants to buy it but too bad it’s not yet available in the Philippines. This product looks promising to me because it’s not too expensive but it’s already touchscreen. Here is a list of some of the features of Zen X-Fi 2:

X-Fi (Xtreme Fidelity) audio technology

Built-in speaker

A/V cable connection for TV

Expandable microSD memory card slot

FM Radio

I haven’t seen a live demo of this product but based on the reviews I read on the Internet, the user interface and touchscreen can be quite problematic. I’m not sure how true and how bad it is but it’s pretty understandable since I think this is Creative’s first touchscreen product. I just hope that they will be able to fix these issues in future hardware and software upgrades.

Given those two choices above, I will stick with my old reliable Creative Zen for now as it still serves me well and I don’t feel the need to upgrade right away. After all, what will I do with my old Zen if I buy a new one? But maybe if you are the one looking for a new music player this Christmas season, you might include these two among your choices.

It astonished me to see the cellphone maker now creating mini laptops. One would initially doubt Nokia in making laptops because their forte is in making cellphones. However, the features of the Nokia Booklet 3G just seem to be too good and really convincing as it really suits my need for mobility. Here are just some of the specs:

-12-hour battery life (means that you can leave the charger at home)
-Powered by Windows 7 Operating System
-A cool and stylish aluminum design
-Unlimited connectivity by WiFi
-3G/HSPA with hot swappable sim card (not yet sure how this will work)
-1.3 MP front camera with microphone
-Global Positioning System (A-GPS)

Just take a look at the video here which is guaranteed to give you goosebumps on all its impressive features.

They say that this will be priced at 575 Euros (roughly 40,000 Pesos). At such an expensive price, I will have to stop drooling and will think more than twice before buying. How about you?

When you first see the new iPod Shuffle, you will never know what it is until you see Apple’s logo on it. It’s so small. It’s about the size of a paper clip or a locker key at 1.8 inches tall and 0.3 inch thin. It has no buttons in front.

Why is it the talking iPod? Well since it has no LCD display to show what’s the song currently being played, it makes use of a voice-over instead to say what’s the title of the song or if you are already running low on battery. Nice one huh?

So if there are no playback controls then how do you control it? Actually, there are playback and volume controls, not on the player but on the earphone – something which might be a drawback in case you would want to use a different earphone from a different manufacturer.

Anyway here is a photo comparing the old 2nd generation iPod shuffle with the new one.

Even if I find the voice-over and the size very much astounding – I don’t think it’s for me. If I would buy an iPod, I’ll go for the higher-end models. So how about you? Do you think this iPod is for you?

It has been like ages waiting for 5800 Xpress Music phone from Nokia and I'm very happy that it is finally here. Surprisingly, it's not as expensive as I thought it would be.

It has been like ages waiting for 5800 Xpress Music phone from Nokia and I’m very happy that it is finally here. Surprisingly, it’s not as expensive as I thought it would be.

At only 18,000 Pesos, it is hard to imagine that a new phone from Nokia containing cool music features would cost only this much. As what I have seen in the past from Nokia, I expected it to be more or less 30,000 Pesos. Anyway some of 5800′s nice features are:

3G with HSPDA
Touchscreen
Accelerometer sensor for screen auto-rotation
Up to 16 GB Memory Card (original package has 8GB Memory Card and 81MB internal memory)
Wi-Fi and bluetooth
3.15 Megapixel Camera with Carl Zeiss lens and auto-focus. Has a secondary camera for video call
GPS receiver
Plays MP3, WMA, WAV, EAAC, MP4, WMV, 3GP

While the features are really nice, the only thing that makes me wonder is why the internal memory is only 81MB? I think they should have added more since this is a music phone. But no need to worry since it has a memory card slot of up to 16 GB anyway.

And for some reason, I don’t understand why all music phones that come out are being compared to the iPhone? I don’t know but I think it’s weird. It just makes the iPhone more overrated. Just take a look at a spoof ad I found below from BlueTrigger.

Between this and the iPhone, which one would you choose?
