My answer to that would be yes. I know that the emo haircut was already around a few years ago as evident in my post here but yes, it is still “in” and guess what? There is a variation of it which is currently being made popular again by salons for men here in the Philippines.

The idea is you will get a short haircut (probably a faux-hawk) and add short stripes to either or both sides of your head (called racing stripes or dash stripes) and you will end up having lines like these:

And since summer is here in just a few more days, short haircuts would be fantastic! I’m planning to get this haircut but I have to double check to make sure that I’m not violating any of my company’s policies.

I initially thought that it was a rebranding of Gatsby Wax but I was wrong. It’s a better product than Gatsby Wax – the substance is more dense and it gives you more freedom in hairstyling. The cool thing about it is that in order to style your hair, you will need to split and pinch your hair on the tip to get that snazzy Asian-hair look (I’ve tried it and it works!). What’s more is that you can restyle your hair as many times as you want.

As far as I know, this is not yet available in the local market. It’s really easy. First inhale, then as you exhale, begin to flash your smile. Your smile would look better, especially in photos.

Yeah, I know it seems a bit awkward but it does work. Just don’t overdo the inhaling and exhaling or else you will look like you’re suffocating.

Side-swept bangs on men a.k.a “Boy bangs” is one of the best haircuts of this season. Japanese have it. Koreans sport it. Americans imitate it. Filipinos love it. And best of all chicks dig it.

Unlike the emo haircut with unusually long bangs, “Boy bangs” have shorter bangs sweeping on one side of the forehead, almost reaching one’s eyebrows. And don’t forget that having a haircut like this is pretty useless unless you use hairstyling products like wax, moving rubber or styling stick. You will need them to maintain that natural look all day. Truly, Asian hairstyles are the envy of the West!

In this post, Pinoy Guy Guide contributor, Tim, shares his own experience on bikini wax.

Gone were the old tales when the art of waxing was only reserved for the opposite sex for that hair-free baby feeling. In today’s time, even men – yes, as in us guys – are now opting for a hair-free feeling, ahem, down south.

We do not usually discuss such topics to our guy peers whenever we talk about vanity. But did you know that going hair-free down south has its own advantages? In terms of health, it reduces sweat down south especially when you are exposed to the sun therefore, making you feel more comfortable than ever. Also, in terms of aesthetics, no unwanted hair would be seen when you are wearing just your underwear or swimming trunks. You will look clean, neat and soft. Best of all, it will give emphasis down there.

Bikini wax only covers hair above the jewel and those that are in our inner thighs. If you want, you can suggest to have all the hair above completely removed, or leave just a little, or have the treasure trail hair waxed or not. In my case though, I refused having my treasure trail waxed.

My experience of Bikini wax was caused by pure curiosity on how it feels like. For first-timers, the typical “ouch and &@*#@” are inevitable. As a matter of fact, I even suggested a minute break from the therapist for each waxed area. It took me almost an hour for the session, and several breaks in-between in order to restore myself.

Words to describe the results thereof are: clean, smooth, soft, and neat.

Note that bikini wax is different from Brazilian wax. Bikini only covers the hair above and that in our inner thighs, while Brazilian covers all hair beneath down under, including those which we are unaware of.

Barbershop
If I don’t need extreme styling with my hair I’ll just go for the barbershop. And since I like my hair short, I would more often go to the barbershop than to the salon – and yes, it’s cheap and easily accessible! But there are also barbershop in malls that are decent and recommendable like Kevin’s Cut.

Salon
If I will need to do some styling when my hair is a bit long, then there is no better place to go but to salons. They have lots of services including hair coloring (though, haven’t tried that yet). However, salons are quite expensive since their prices are more than double the price of barbershops. And of course don’t forget the tip you give to your hairstylist since this is compulsory even if not explicitly said.

Anyway these are just my thoughts on the two options. I’d like to hear your thoughts as well.

Now, Master has introduced it’s own – Master Hair Styling Wax. This hair wax comes in three variants and costs 79 Pesos in department stores. In case you aren’t aware, Master is the maker of Dermaclear-C for Men and a few years ago they launched their very first hair product for men – Master Hair Gel.

At present I am a certified Gatsby user. I haven’t tried Master yet. If anyone has already tried it, I would be happy to hear your comments on the product.

1. Wash your face
Your face is the first thing that other people notice. More than anything else, it’s very important to keep your face pimple-free and acne-free. Wash your face at least twice a day. Using Master DermaClear-C to remove pimples is effective for me. You could try that too.

2. You can try to use whitening soaps
If you want to whiten your skin, I suggest you try whitening soaps since these are safe and effective to use. Remember to choose one which is dermatologically-tested. You could also check out Nivea for Men products. Though I haven’t tried it, I’ve received feedback that it’s good.

Well he answered – a rockstar (emo) haircut. Unfortunately, this doesn’t suit me as my hair is not that long but I thought why not feature it in Pinoy Guy Guide? Anyway the photos below is what my barber was describing in its simplest terms. It really reminds me of band members from My Chemical Romance and Greenday.

Unlike other types of rock-star haircut, this is not spiky. Here you have very long bangs extending to the other side of your head. I remember Tobey Maguire in Spiderman 3 sporting a somewhat similar type of haircut during his alter-ego black spidey mode:

Cool-looking and an ultimate rockstar-look, this style is suited for someone with long hair. As for me, I don’t think this fits quite well because my hair is short, so I got myself an out-of-bed look haircut instead.

Anyway some PGG reader emailed me asking what shaver do I recommend that is durable, inexpensive and easy to refill?

Well as for me, I would recommend Gillette Vector Plus. It’s cheap (costs around 42 Pesos), it’s everywhere (so it’s easy to refill) and the blades are inexpensive costing around 40 Pesos for a pair. Based from experience, using the shaver is fast, easy and very gentle on the skin.

Though the Gillette Mach 3 is of course a top-of-the-line shaver, I would rather use the Gillette Vector Plus because it costs little and it’s durable. Mine is already more than a year and I’m just loving it because it is a Gillette Vector Plus World Cup Limited Edition – perfect for a soccer fan like me!

As for the shaving cream, I use Gillette Foamy Lime. Smells good, gentle on skin and costs less – 50 Pesos which is good for about 6 months (depending on frequency of use). What more could you ask for?
