Last February 24, Pinoy Guy Guide turned 4 years old! Wow, that was really fast! In a span of 4 years, we have seen tremendous changes in men’s clothing and men’s lifestyle and I’m really sure there’s more to come. With that said, I’m hoping for more PGG viewers, more PGG forum members, more PGG feed readers and yes, more PGG likes on Facebook! And if you are thinking of contributing to the blog in your own way or if you have suggestions in mind, please feel free to shoot me an email at or contact me here.

By the way, I am very thrilled about the way the PGG Forums is turning out. Lots of guys are now joining there and talking about boys stuff and the likes. I’ve also learned that many guys at the forums have gained new friends and are regularly hanging-out in real life. Isn’t that cool? From online friends to real life friends. Well, I really do hope to meet you guys some time.

University of Santo Tomas is now 4 centuries old!

My bad, I wasn’t able to attend UST’s historic celebration of its quadricentennial anniversary (1611-2011) last January since my office is quite far from school and it was a weekday. Nevertheless, I am taking my time now to show some love and to greet my alma mater a Happy 400^th Birthday!

You know, college in UST was one of the happiest days in my student life. I will never forget how much I enjoyed this school.

I Am Number 4 is the BOMB!

Last Saturday, my girlfriend and I watched the movie “I Am Number Four” in the cinema and damn, it was really really good! It’s a must-see movie and it is currently my most favorite movie (I have now seen it twice and I’m hoping for a sequel). Good actors, great storyline, superb special effects and the best thing about it is that the 2 girls in the movie are deym hot – Dianna Agron and Teresa Palmer.

Okay, alright enough said. I don’t want to give out spoilers to those who haven’t seen it. Just make sure you don’t miss this one!

Anyway, since Transformers the movie is back again this June, it would be nice to see her back. What intrigues me is the fact that she once said that she is way hotter than Angelina Jolie – what do you say about that?

I was lucky enough to win free movie tickets to Stardust, courtesy of our office. So last Wednesday I headed off to the theater with my officemates to watch the movie – it was awesome!

I don’t know why it didn’t hit the theaters worldwide all at the same time because as I have heard, in the US it was shown as early as August while in some parts it was shown last September and now October in the Philippines.

Anyway the sypnosis below from IMDB.com gives the plot outline of the movie

“A young man named Tristan (Charlie Cox) tries to win the heart of Victoria
(Sienna Miller), the beautiful but cold object of his desire, by going on a
quest to retrieve a fallen star. His journey takes him to a mysterious and
forbidden land beyond the walls of his village. On his odyssey, Tristan finds
the star, which has transformed into a striking girl named Yvaine (Claire
Danes). However, Tristan is not the only one seeking the star. Lord Stormhold’s
(Peter O’Toole) three living sons not to mention the ghosts of their four dead
brothers all need the star as they vie for the throne. Tristan must also
overcome the evil witch, Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer), who needs the star to make
her young again. As Tristan battles to survive these threats, encountering a
pirate named Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro) and a shady trader named Ferdy the Fence (Ricky Gervais) along the way, his quest changes. He must now win the heart of the star for himself as he discovers the meaning of true love.”

The story is very interesting. So if you’re into fantasy with a twist of romance and humor, I recommend this movie for you. I rate it a 10/10 since I’m a fan of movies like these. I just don’t know why it’s so underrated and is not advertised the way Spiderman and Harry Potter was. Anyway click play below to watch the trailer.

So anyway I rushed to the theater this weekend to watch Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I don’t know but I find the first part a little B-O-R-I-N-G. I know it does explain the story but I think they could have done better by adding a bit of action than just plain story-telling. The only two things that woke me up were these funny lines:

1.) One, was when Harry Potter after kissing the girl described the kiss as “It was wet…” lol…
2.) When Dumbledore disappeared magically with his phoenix, one of the wizards said… “Dumbledore’s Got Style”. This was really funny

Anyway the visual effects were stunning. I heard that it was good to watch it in iMax. The fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort is priceless… It really pulled off most of the boring parts of the film. My rating would be an 8/10 (if not because of the beautiful fight scene). The story is basically the movie version of the cartoons “Transformers”. If you were a fan of this cartoons when you were a kid, perhaps it is good to see this movie. It is basically a battle between robots. Check out the trailer below to find out more.

Way back in 2005, I didn’t have an idea of Fantastic 4 – it’s just that I wasn’t a fan of the comics. I even thought that I would fall asleep watching the movie but I was wrong. I did like Fantastic 4 because unlike any other superhero movie it demonstrated lots of value especially when it comes to teamwork. And of course, the special effects of the first installment was just SUPERB!

It’s a wonder that Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer will be shown June 13 in the Philippines where in fact it would be shown June 15 in the USA and most parts of the world. I really am amazed as to how early movies premiere here in the country. Don’t forget to watch this movie. I couldn’t wait to see Jessica Alba (my crush haha) in F4. For me, nothing compares to the Spider-man movies. I just love it from the very start. See, what I like about the film is that unlike any other, it just keeps getting better and better! And if you want to have an idea of how successful Spider-man is, take a look at the cinemas of SM and other malls. You would see that all their cinemas are showing Spiderman, that is Cinemas 1-12 like in Megamall. This is the first time I’ve seen something like this. It’s like there’s no other film besides Spiderman at the moment. After all it’s truly worth watching it.

Review of Spider-man 3

Of the three Spider-man movies, Spider-man 3 is the best (though I like Spider-man 1 and 2 a lot as well). I like how the characters and the story are done. So beautifully made.

The Character of Spiderman – a true blue superhero!

The character of Peter Parker as Spiderman is what amazes me the most. The fact that he is not a “PERFECT” superhero is something so realistic. Something that is so genuine. Here in Spiderman 3 he’s ego has changed and he became a braggart thus pushing his friends and MJ away. You could see that sometimes success and fame indeed blinds a person that he could no longer remember where he came from. This is what happened to Peter and it does happen to all of us in real life.

The Action, Drama and Story

Unlike the previous Spiderman movies, Spiderman 3 contains lots of actions – and story as well. It’s not just all fight scenes. There’s drama, comedy, romance, adventure and best of all ACTION twists!

[Action & Adventure]

When it comes to action, I could say that the fight scenes were astoundingly SUPERB! Everyone in the theater I went to were all holding their breath (I included). Sandman and Venom were just perfect as villains. And I want to compliment how well they animated Sandman. It was “wicked cool”! You’re right, I quoted that from the kid in Spiderman 3.

[Comedy]

It was not surprising too that they added lots of comedy to the movie as we’ve seen this a lot in previous Spiderman movies. In particular I like the parts where Peter was dancing on the streets. Also I couldn’t stop laughing at the waiter in the restaurant where Peter was going to propose to MJ. It was just so hilarious. Oh and don’t forget the Editor in Chief of the Daily Bugle who was being “shocked” on his desk everytime he was getting angry.

[Drama and Romance (may contain spoilers)]

The character of MJ as Peter’s girlfriend is something where guys could learn a lot in handling love and relationships. In Spiderman 3, we have seen that Peter wasn’t around everytime MJ had problems. But inspite all of that MJ was still there for him. IT was Peter and his ego who was pushing MJ away.

Harry Osborn on the other hand showed the true value of friendship. Though Peter had hurt him several times he was still there as his bestfriend and stood by him until the very end. It was sad though that he died in the end after helping Spiderman fight Venom and Sandman.

Summary and Overall Comment

Spiderman is perfect. The movie instills to us lessons in life that we ourselves could apply. Here we have seen the true value of friendship, love, relationships and best of all forgiveness. The characters in Spiderman 3 all had their own story. We’ve seen that Sandman is not really a bad person after all.

I also liked how Spiderman was implied to be somewhat religious. He went to the steeple of the Church to reflect what he has done to the people who loved him. It’s not ordinary for superhero movies to show something like this.

The film also had some beautiful quotes to remember. I like the part where Peter said this: “Whatever comes our way, whatever battle we have raging inside us, we always have a choice. My friend Harry taught me that. He chose to be the best of himself. It’s the choices that make us who we are, and we can always choose to do what’s right.” – This quotation is just brilliant! It has now become my favorite. It’s simple yet it has a very great impact to all of us because between good and evil, we know that the best thing to do is to do what is right.

Anyway I hope there would be a Spider-man 4! So for those who haven’t seen it yet.. Then what are you waiting for? This could be your last chance to see Spidey on the theater…

I was able to watch 300 early last week. Well the movie was fantastic! It was very nice. I loved the adrenaline-rush fight scenes. Way back in highschool, the 300 Spartans led by Leonidas was one of the most memorable events I could remember in world history. Their courage is well admired by many.

While the fight scenes are very enjoyable for young people, I would like to comment on the characters in the movie. Though I know that this is based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel I didn’t like the way the Persians were portrayed. Monsters? Oh come on. Plus take a look at Xerxes. Is he gay or something? lol. In my opinion the Persians in this movie were complete FREAKS!!! The colors of the actual film were dull to. Perhaps the result of too much computer graphics.

But I still loved the movie just because of the fight scenes (which they made extra cool for the youth) and for the fact that I liked the story of Leonidas in world history back in Highschool. I still have some hangovers of the movie.

“Spartans prepare for Glory – Ahu! Ahu! Ahu!”. Coolness.

My Rating: 8/10
