PGG’s four picks on Men’s Scents

Looking forward to buy a new perfume or cologne? Well you have come to the right place for suggestions. Here are some of the best scents for men I have discovered lately, from the high-end ones suitable for a coat and tie affair to the low-end ones for your casual outdoor activities.

Lacoste Essential

Lacoste Essential

This is highly recommended when you go out on a date or for formal occasions. The scent is elegant, refined and manly. What’s so good about it is that it is perfect for the Philippine climate because the more you sweat, the better it smells on you. I’m sure you know by now that women are turned-on by the pheromones in men’s sweat so this one is really a must-have. In my own experience, I have received several compliments after wearing this perfume.

Bulgari Aqua Pour Homme Marine

Bulgari Aqua Marine

A refreshing high-end scent for men which is suitable for daily use. It stays on for long so you wouldn’t need to spray every now and then. It’s kind of difficult to describe the “aquatic” scent so I suggest that it would be best for you to smell it in the perfumery section of department stores.

Mossimo Fusion

Mossimo Fusion

If you are an athletic guy looking for an inexpensive body spray, this one is for you. Best for guys who are always out on sports or gimmicks, this one is surely a must-have since it also smells better as you sweat.

Memo Rush

Memo Rush

Recently released as a men’s scent, Memo Rush is also an inexpensive cologne which is best for daily use in the office or in school. After trying it a few times, I have noticed that wherever I go, people seem to be guessing who is wearing that fresh-smelling scent. This one is definitely worth the try!

These are just some of the colognes and perfumes that I have for now and I’ll be posting more about fragrances as soon as I discover good ones. For the mean time, you can also suggest your own scents by posting your comments below.

  • Cool entry. I’m a sucker of scents. My all time fave so far is Clinique Happy for Men. Just sharing. =)

  • Mukhang ang mahal naman ng first two eh, hehe.

Anyways, my all-time favorite is 11:55 from Oxygen. Inexpensive and really smells good. I received a lot of compliments, and people ask me ano perfume mo?

    And I humorously answer them:

“Wala naman. Pinagpapawisan lng talaga ako.” hahahaha.

  • Pipo – I heard too that it’s good
    dumont – LOL!
Bunsoi – Yup, mabango din yan
Michael – haha! I agree, Lacoste essential is a secret weapon. Shhhh… 🙂

  • have y’all heard of avatar by coty. it’s my favorite scent. i find it refreshing; the sweet spicy scent possesses a blend of pineapple, clear woods, coriander and bergamot. and not as expensive as the leading international brands.

i also like ck’s euphoria for men. do remember the bench scents back in the day? amoy bench eight throughout high school.

  • @Pipo – Yeah i love that too unfortunately it’s too expensive for a student like me.lolz

  • i also got four faves in my closet. 1st is Burberry the BEAT, it has
an addictive woody fragrance, gotta love the bottle! 2nd is
GUCCI by Gucci, its elegant, cool, modern, and contemporary.
3rd is Terre D’Hermes, its minimalistic and comparatively transparent.
smells woody. Last is a unisex perfume: Hermès Un Jardin en Méditerranée
its citrusy fig with a heavy cedar undertone. Hope u guys try them
nd im sure ul like em too!!

  • I agree with the above choices but not for Mossimo fushion.. tingin ko ibang category yun dapat.. :p

hmnn may ibang dumont dito, sino kaya yun Chris hehehe. though natawa ako sa comment nya :):):)

  • im loving burberry summer (2009) at the moment. smells a lot better than its 2008 edition. some all time favorites include burberry weekend and clinique happy for men as both has light and not so over powerful scent. a fourth favorite is issey miyake’s l’eau bleue D’Issey pour homme for its long-lasting freshness that even my laundry hamper smells Issey after i toss my used shirt in it. for my all time favorite, local and affordable staple, it’s got to be bench b20. it like a grown up version of your baby cologne (e.g. nenuco or denenes) and never fails to ellicit compliments whenever I put it on.

  • On my Xmas wish list is givenchy’s play endorsed by justin timberlake. i have tried their testers and its another one of those light and not too powerful scent that im crazy about.

  • ….there are many favorites but I recommend Lacoste Red, Bulgari Blue, Hugo boss Red, Issey Miyake Summer, John Varvatos, Chanel, Curve, Carolina Herrera for men and CK Euphoria

  • …Bvlgari Aqua, Burberry Weekend, CK Crave, D&G Light Blue for Men, Clean Men, Hugo by Hugo Boss, CK Eternity, Armani Code Black

  • cno po nakakaalm ng “jordan black extreme”, parang agnun ung title but not pretty sure…san po xa nabibili at ano po brand?tnx po

  • Oh, a great description! No idea how you came up with this report..it’d take me days. Well worth it though, I’d suspect.

  • Such an excellent written report! No idea how you came up with this report..it’d take me days. Well worth it though, I’d suspect.

  • Smells like Bench Desired. Seems like they both have the same source for the fragrance oil…or not!

OT: Bench Pure Passion smells something like the blue colored fragrance I once bought from Sara Lee! Guess many fragrances just interchange fragrance oils. Also, Lacoste L12.12 Vert smells like Axe Phoenix…

  • Can anyone please please comment here where MEMO RUSH is sold and how much? please

  • Yes! I second the motion. San ba nakakabili at magkano yang MEMO RUSH na yan? it might be my “gamechanger” dun sa nililigawan ko. So please pakisabi naman where to get one. PLEASE. Thank you!

  • san po nakakabili ng mossimo fusion at memo rush? Meron po ba sa, hbc, watson o sm dept. Store? Thanks. 😀

Where can I buy Lacoste essential or Memo rush? and how much?

  • TEST A SCENT AND BE THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE

My number one right now is Dunhill Blue, next is Acqua Gio, and then CK Eternity. They are ranked according to stickiness. I tested them all before deciding to stick with them. First, I have to personally like the candidate perfume/cologne. Then there is the field test. I’d spray the candidate on my body and immediately hang around with female friends. If no one makes a comment on the scent, I’d ask, “Sino yung mabango?” And if no one lets out an expression of disagreement, I’d then smell my shirt and say, “Ay! Ako pala ang mabango!” This opener never failed to make my girl friends laugh. I’d take it as a sign that the scent is a good one when a friend dares ask for the name of the scent. Of course the rule of the game is not to tell them what it is if you want to draw them closer to you just to smell you, even in the presence of their BFs. Indeed, the good answer to the question then is a playful smile and a simple, “Pawis ko ‘yan.” This is good as it never failed to intrigue girls who ask and make them laugh. In addition, this answer kind of breaks the ice with girls. Confirmation that the scent is indeed your fugitive scent when you begin to notice that girls, acquaintance or not, who had smelled it before WOULD want to sit/stand beside and/or talk to you. The sense of smell is the strongest memory glue there is, so you can bet, if your scent is desirable, nearly all girls WOULD remember it and would take pleasure AGAIN in settling beside a person giving off that sweet smelling thing. Why? Simple: We animals naturally pursue a source of pleasure. And obviously now, it’s a consequence that affords sweet-smelling guys a great deal of opportunity to catch a girl that’s worth chasing. I remember I was once at the mall with my GF when she overheard and told me that a group of high school girls were teasing one of their friends. The girls said their friend walks right behind me just to keep on smelling me. It’s only the giggling that I heard though. I earmarked the perfume I was wearing on that day. It was Dunhill Blue. Well, my scent may not go well, of course, with certain skin types, but my 2-pronged test will probably help one capture his own fugitive scent. Again, the test: (1) one must like the candidate scent personally; (2) his girl friends should like the same. Obviously, it applies to both men and women.

Right now I want to try Chris’s suggested scents. Thanks for the suggestions.

  • San pong branch ng SM po kaya available ung memo rush? sa sta.mesa kc wala or sa galleria kaya meron? current price po?

  • Sniper – agree with Dunhill Blue – I have one. 🙂

Kiefer – sa Memo SM North. Last I’ve seen is in Glorietta

JM/Elijah – last time I saw it was about 5 months ago. I’ll check it.

Simon – Issey Miyake – is it available locally?

  • I haven’t tried these scents yet but for me the first on my list is gonna be Armani Black Code. Followed by Polo Blue, Dunhill Blue and Benetton Cold.. 🙂

  • I’ve recently tried Memo Rush and yes, the best of it’s price range. Others I likd: Clinique Happy for Men, Acqua di Gio, Davidoff Champ.

  • I think the price for memo rush perfume is PHP550 in any MEMO outlet store. They have stores in trinoma and gateway if you are looking for it.

  • I am using Lacoste Essential and it is definitely must have. I remember the day when my crush is seated beside me and she told me that “Grabe! ang bango mo (My Name!) Sana pabango ka nalang!”. Medyo masakit ung banat nya sa bandang dulo pero tinangap ko nalang as a compliment.
