I think death penalty in the Philippines is just another bandaid solution to the problems. We are curing the symptoms, not the cause itself.
Patayin ang kriminal dahil labas-masok sa kulungan? Dahil bulok ang sistema ng korte? Eh di ayusin natin ang justice system.
Bakit ba maraming kriminal. Kasi sila ay biologically-inclined at na-trigger ng environmental factors. Ano yung mga environmental factors: bad parenting, bad neighborhood, bad schooling, bad school policies, bad health policies, bad economic policies, etc. Di ba ang daming dapat ayusin?
Kaya maraming pabor sa tukhang. It's an easy way out.
We like death penalty because it's easy. And that's what we Filipinos want, electorate and elected alike. Just an easy way out. Masabi lang na may nagawa.
sad reality, but i agree to this.
plus, hindi ko ipagkakatiwala sa current justice system natin ang buhay ng kahit sino. i mean, hindi bago ang mistrial sa pilipinas. someone can just frame you up, pay off the judges, and voila, they get you killed the legal way. problem with death penalty is it is irreversible. so pag nagkamali, sorry na lang. e tao lang din naman ang mga hukom at pwedeng magkamali. in that case, hindi na natin maibabalik yung buhay ng isang inosenteng bata. also this:
https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/mother-of-beheaded-taipei-girl-moves-taiwanese-with-loving-message-call-for-calmnakakatuwa lang na yung nanay ng pinatay, sya pa yung nananawagang kumalma ang mga tao.
"This is not a problem that can be solved by passing a law," she said. "I hope we can address the problem from its root, from the perspective of family and education, so that there will no longer be people like him (the perpetrator) in our society."
she understands the problem, and knows that the death penalty is not a solution. i hope we see things through the same lenses. and solve problems at the roots, not just address it's symptoms.
