I'm using a Business Application that can be configured depending on the requirements. If configuration can't solve a certain requirement, I would need to use the scripting capability of the application which is mainly based on java.

teaching and medicine, two of the most noble professions for me
so agree
Wow naman. Hehehe! Even if carpediem and ram weren't specifically pertaining to me, I am glad that they view those two professions to be the most noble.
Kasi, I am both. I was a highschool teacher before I entered the world of Medicine. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in secondary education and taught at a highschool and then volunteered to work in a non-profit NGO to develop a school curriculum adaptable to the community the NGO is working with. After the work was done, I then proceeded to study medicine proper.
^ kailan ka nagdecide to be a doctor? even before getting a degree in education, or during the time you taught highschool?
Before pa actually. Nagstart yung desire ko be a doctor since a was in highschool. Even if my mom has been pushing me to be a doctor since time immemorial, I wasn't really swayed not until in highschool when I watched in TV a documentary show about less fortunate people in the streets and slums of Manila. I saw how the Philippines healthcare force needed to be strengthened and that gave me the burden to be a doctor. Honestly, I don't want to get filthy rich with this profession. As long as I could provide for my family, that would be enough. Watch me, I'll be the future DOH secretary. Hahaha!

Mag aapply kasi ako this February. For back-end I'm used to PHP and SQL. I also do front-ends like JavaScript/AJAX, CSS and HTML of course @_@. I'm also knowledgeable in making Flash animations, Image editing, video editing using Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premiere respectively.
Any tips sa mga IT jan? hehehe
Wages vary widely, depending on your job and the company. I don't know what is the minimum for a newbie "generic" web developer nowadays. I think probably around 15k.
Seems like marami kang alam sa front end. If you have a good artistic sense you may want to be a designer, although it won't get you far except in rare cases.
To be a developer, you'll need to know more than just PHP and SQL. SQL is a must and is used practically everywhere, so you need to be good at it. PHP is hip, but it won't help you much in getting corporate jobs, because large companies usually look for skills on "enterprise-y" languages like Java and .Net. Other languages that you might want to learn are those new generation of cool languages like Python and Ruby.
You may also try freelancing, although it is not for everyone.
Nag aral na din ako ng Java and .NET but I didn't like them. Kung kaylangan talaga siya sa corporate world then I guess I'll have my self study anew =)
Thanks carpediem :) Anong position mo sa company niyo? Are you into programming din?
That's understandable. Java and .NET are not "fun" languages, especially if you know or come from dynamic languages like PHP, Python, or Ruby.
I'd like to point out that knowing a language is not as important as knowing how to solve problems, and how to acquire skills in new languages and tools.
Me, I'm not a web programmer. I do more of the back-end in my job, and sometimes all around stuff. :)
work work work

My answer to HItad's questions:
Guys ano bang minimum wage ng isang beginner na web developer at san maganda mag-work dito sa Philippines? - 10-15K depende sa company po yan.
I am a web application developer. I am more into code programming. :)
Regarding sa skills, you have to be knowledgeable in different programming languages. If you are a programmer, you need to be flexible.
A bit of advice, kung gusto mong maging successful programmer or IT, you have the attitude of learner. In IT, there is no such thing as permanent, as technology progress, our knowledge should also progress. :)

Thanks for the pieces of advice maykel. Yeah I'm always fluid for the benefit of everyone, I won't jeopardize any company just because of my own personal preferences. I also have to disregard the statements I emphasized above since it's illegal against my will, I want to work on the positive side. If ever I will do that, it will not cost anything. I've even worked for my school's website and other's theses free of charge :)

Para sa akin.. eh I take these advice na binigay nila..
Ito ang approach ko..
* Dapat consistent ang feelings ko of leaving the company.. Like dapat at least 1 whole month eh hinde nagbabago ang feelings ko..
* I prefer percentage pag lilipat ako ng ibang company instead of fix increase.. Like.. 100% increase is bigger than 10k increase against your current salary. Nung inoferan ako ng around more or less 300% ata na increase eh tinanggap ko na.
Naging 100% decided ako with leaving the company eventhough I'm aware that I had to sacrifice seeing my friends in there (Wala naman kase aqng best friend dun na pwedeng maging stumbling block sa king resignation.) and my psychiatrist. So I just picked the topmost friends I have (I have lots of friends sa previous company. Mga more or less 500 people(offshore, onshore, close, co-athlete, commoners) .).. Bought silver bracelets to comemorate our friendships. Individually gift wrapped each. Then binigay ko sa kanila on one on one approach. That's my way of saying goodbye to them. I just base it sa tenure ng aming friendship.

Hahaha! I was shock at first to see onshore pips na umiinom ng beer habang nagppresent. I prefer drinking red wine. ;D
Pwede d2 na polo lng or barong. Walang rules sa damit pag fridays.. Wag lang ung masyadong revealing. Yung presentable nmn.

It depends on what you value
For me yes, kasi I'm sure may matutunan din ako kapag lumipat ako - given na yun. Of course aalis ako in the first place kasi may iba rin akong hinahanap.

Thanks bro. :)
I resigned, at wala akong nafeel na regret. and I'm for my decision :)

second ang salary, tama ba? ;D
Don't know.
Pero there are studies that say salary is a poor motivator or incentive for workers.

para sa mga OFWs, salary is a good motivator ;D kapalit ng pagiging malayo sa Pinas at malayo sa mga mahal sa buhay para makapagbigay ng maginhawa at komportableng buhay
Yes in some sense. i guess it is a big incentive for poor people like us.
But we have to differentiate a bit what motivation means. Because I think motivation is more than just a "bait" for you to take on a job. It's how one is encouraged to work harder and contribute more, independent of a given benefit.
most of the time i just give my best sa work....whether ma notice nila o hinde...pero most of the time napapansin e ...i guess thats what you get when you do it with all your heart...even if its not perfect
ako ang paglipat sa new work/company is not because of money and not because of a bad boss but because of long term stability.....yung work na hanggang sa magretire na ako kahit mababa ang sahod compared sa previous work ko....
i guess theres really a place where we are destined to be ...to work and retire there or probably a business of our own

its true. there are always motivations that will drive one person to get up in the morning and work.
sometimes, ang motivation kasi is thought of being achieved through having a lot of money; hence the monetary compensation becomes a big factor.

hmmm...parang di pa ako umabot sa "phase " na to :P :P :P
when i was 19. and was just starting on my first job as a programmer.. I've got this sickening feeling.. The work is so hard and the schedule is tight. My P9,500 salary is also doomed to be reduced if i didn't meet the deadline. Time flies so fast when I do program coding and all I do was sleep and go to work. This happend every day. I asked myself 'Is this my life?
And is now or never. Nah, I aint gonna live forever. I just wanna live without a lie..'. I answered 'Never!'. Until I decide to find another work..
I must accept that that will be the kind of life that perhaps I will live on.

And guess what kung ano ang exam namin.....
naalala ko nung orientation q dati.. nung baguhan plang aq fresh from IT.. Bale binigyan aq ng paper and me nakasulat dun kung nakakakita daw ba ako ng mga multo. I answered 'slightly'. tpos pinakain nila aq ng pinakain.. For a week eh ganun kame ng ganun..
OMG ang hirap ng first day ko sa work!!!! Thank God natapos ko pa yung task. Hirap talaga umintindi ng codes ng iba.... naging debugger ang work ko as a trainee T_T

mahirap talaga magbasa ng code. it's a skill a programmer needs to learn, because a programmer spend more of his time reading than writing codes, including those of his own.

But what if there are not enough jobs for these graduates in the first place? What if the pay is not enough to sustain a living? Remember all public schools are subsidized by the government, and by logic all graduates from these schools should stay to serve.

not only that, hindi pa nga permanent, ang dami na reklamo.
@hitad - marami rin considerations ang living abroad. it looks so lucrative because you would always think that you can earn in foreign currency but spend in PhP. True! but you have to consider that you would also need money to spend for your daily living in the country where you are working for.
aba mahirap ata magsimula ng ikaw lang. swerte kung may matutuluyan ka or may mag-share ng expenses mo at least for your first year. tinitingnan ko ang mga OFW na namamayagpag sa ibang bansa, it also took them years before they were able to live comfortably and send stipen to their families here on a regular basis.
example ko na lang sa singapore. the easiest you can get is about 1800 sgd. (when converted to PhP, WOW this is about 60-65K malaki na talaga) but did you know that rent to a very small room space a month already costs 800sgd. food is about 5-10 (yung cheap na ito as in carideria level) per meal. ilan beses ka kakain sa isang araw? ilang araw ka bago sumahod muli?
in other words, halos wala ka rin maiipon.
you can always stick it out here in the PH. at the very least, mura pa rin ang bilihin dito compared to the first world countries and services are really cheap... ganyan talaga sa simula. wala naman nagsisimula ng mataas na agad ang sweldo. kahit naman yung mga laudes of this country also start from the bottom or at least 1-2 levels higher than the starting position. kapag nasa baba ka tlaaga, ikaw ang utusan. but as you gain experience and prove to the company your worth, you will earn a decent position and will be compensated accordingly. nasa programming ka pa naman, mas malaki ang kita pa dyan compared to other jobs of your level.
ako nakasimula ako makaluwag talaga only after 4 years of working. i stuck it out with my first job but nung medyo nagkaroon na ng position, that is when i left. so better market value and very much competitive na ang rate when hired. =)
good luck!
The important thing is I'm doing my best to do my job.

Thanks for those info. Well actually I'm planning to pursue a certain position din bago ako aalis, I have thought about 6months-2 years bago ako lilipat.
^ I agree with angelo.
Kung yung habol mo is to return the favor your parents gave you, try to ask them also if ok ba sa kanila na mag-abroad ka to earn a bigger salary. Oftentimes parents do not care about the return of favor. They would rather have their children close to them, than their children giving them big money at the cost of seeing their children only once or twice a year.
Ako talaga gusto ko mag-work abroad. And gusto ko i-support yung pamilya ko and mukhang mahihirapan ako kapag mag-stay ako dito. But if there would be a chance siguro.

pag may pera sila, they just keep silent pero pag wala na silang pera, saka sila magpapakain or magpaparamdam.

Hmm not really.
Yung mga first generation Filipino-Chinese probably... Pero hindi rin. My view is that they treat their employees more nicely, and more understanding sila.
i think the chinese are fair. they run the business down to the letter and to the last centavo. that is why they seem "kuripot"

2. Medical benefits, covered ang beneficiaries ko (sila Ermat at Erpat) for confinement.
3. 80% increase on my salary ang offer nila compare on my salary sa previous ko.
4. 15 and SL and 15 and VL , unlike with my previous work 12 SL and 12 VL lang per year.
5. Unlimited and medicine reimbursement.
7. Mas prestige yung company ko now compare to my previous 8)
^^ underpaid? 80% increase in your pay? wow.
I was shocked to know this
80k is $ 6,666.67 per month (Php 290,000)

2. 2k ang food, gas and utilities
3. 1k ang tax
4. 1.5k ang gastos sa school and other unexpected expenses (loans)

based sa computation, possibly a big city for the $2K rent... sa food, gas and utilities mataas rin ang $2K possibly malayong commute....

Magkano po registration fee? and other fees na dpat kong tignan?

Registration fee for upwork? When I joined as far as I can remember parang walang fee eh, you just have to be verified and choose a mode of withdrawing your earnings. Sa ngayon the fees are: 1. when you withdraw which is 10pct of the amount also; 2. there's a bracket for each client you work with and based on the total amount billed since started working on that client, you can find the details of that in their website.
Any IT or Comp Eng Graduate here who wants to work for "the forbidden fruit"? I cannot directly disclose the name of the company.
We are hiring for developers.
Location: Singapore
Requirements:
-must have at least 2 years of exp
-must be proficient in JAVA and C++
-willing to relocate (relocation pay provided)

My boss told me a few times already, "It's all about your output. Kahit nga mag home-based ka eh, walang problema sa akin."
That's how cool she is. Works fine for me because that really is the case in my line of work. :)
need promotion :( :D

Apparently yes. A friend told me that I am too chill and lazy that if I were to have a cool boss as well, wala ng magagawang trabaho ;D ;D ;D
Actually. Depende nga naman sa empleyado. Ako kasi, sinanay ako nung first boss ko to work on my own. Which I appreciate. Nadala ko yun hanggang ngayon. At siguro napansin ng boss ko ngayon na ganun ako magwork, which I find more effective for me.
O baka naman you are more likely to be the boss kaya petiks ka. Haha
Well I work on my own din naman. Sobrang independent ko I don't want to be bothered. It just happens that there are some people who are micromanagers. And that's when the story begins.
Was given a promotion a few years back. Did not work out well. I'm not good in managing people, my manager said I am too lax with with staff - I was as carefree as an individual contributor.
Like if you prefer to work alone or as an individual contributor, don't aim for management path as it will require you to work with a team and handle them. :) iba-iba din talaga eh no.. hahaha..
Si Boss Den, mataas na level yan. Sir!
Bat ako na naman? Hahaha.
Yun nga, it will all depend sa kung anong goal mo sa kumpanya.
^ wow literal
Boss Den pala dapat tawag sa'yo

actually not just skills, depende din sa industry and sa management structure. Sa startups, sobrang flat ng structure it is very likely na wala kang ima-manage.
Which makes me wonder, meron ba working in a tech startup dito?
^up anyone working in a startup?
