3 questions:
- What job interview question are you not fond of answering?
- Why?
- What was your answer when it was asked to you?
Game! :)
- My Love Life
- There's nothing in there to be bragged.
- I have none.
- how do you see yourself five years from now
- i just hate it, haha.
- hindi ko na maalala, but i limited it to around 3 years, sinabi ko lang na i can't say so much in 5 years, kaya in three years na lang muna. mas madaling sumagot in a shorter time frame. hindi ko na maalala yung mismong answer ko eh, hehe.
another one, from shell:
- what is tourism?
- obvious naman kung para san ito
- nagpause ako ng mga 5 seconds, tapos bumaha ng kung ano anong salita, about dotc, filipino cultures and places etc.
it was a crazy answer.

Tama!!!
At yung tanong, why did you left your previous company and what do we have that makes you interested to apply to us
^^ oo. haha
"how much is your expected salary?"

syempre ang hirap sagutin. you put your best foot forward during job interviews tapos tanungin ka ng ganyan?

"how's your sex life?"
weeehhh di nga??? tlaga? bakit nman ganun ang tanong?
meron akong kasamahan na manager sa work tpos we are doing panel interview tpos ito tinanong nya
"You have 12 pairs of socks in a drawer (mixed) and you will get 1 pair what are the chances that you will get the correct combination of socks?"
parang WTF??? anung konek sa work na inaaplyan nya..geesh

oo, ampangit talaga ng tanong nya. di ko malimutan. siguro nga psychological test kasi she was asking a series of situational questions like what will you do if this happens? what will you do if that? what will you do if you have a coworker?... blah blah blah. tapos all of a sudden, biglang lumabas yung tanong nya na yan. (pero take note, medyo sikat yung company ah.)
parang gusto ko rin sagutin ng bastos: "why? are you interested?" 8)
pero syempre, kailangan professional pa rin. i just smiled and said: "i think it's confidential".

- My Love Life
- There's nothing in there to be bragged.
- I have none.
it's unethical to ask about personal stuff during an interview. kaya meron application form which asks about your civil status. the next time a recruiter would ask about personal stuff like love life, health, sexual orientation, etc., please decline answering politely. these should not be a basis for a hiring decision. :)
eto pa,
what makes you different from other applicants?
Please note that there is no right or wrong answers to interview questions. Mostly, how you word and present the answer or how you deliver, plus thought process, dun nagkakatalo. Also answer specifically. Better to cite proof or concrete results coming from the actions that you took when given a task.
I am not a perfect recruiter (and interviewee)... pero kung nagiinterview ako ng candidates, ito yung mga hinahanap ko.
HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF 5 YEARS FROM NOW?
- Easy answer for an easy question. In 5 years you should still be in this company, of course, on a higher position. Concrete goals plus concrete ways to achieve the goal.
WHAT IS TOURISM?
- ano to? ms. earth? hahah. :)
WHY SHOULD WE HIRE YOU?
- joshgroban is correct, "because i can be an asset to this company".. pero answer na din HOW?
- don't forget to bank on your strenghts... and how you can relate it to the job you are applying for.
HOW MUCH IS YOUR EXPECTED SALARY?
- be upfront. recruiters appreciate if you give them an exact amount. if you deserve higher, it would come out of the interview and assessments. and of course, the salary grade of the company for that specific position.
- play around a 20-30% increase if applying for a 1 level higher position
WHAT ARE YOUR WEAKNESSES?
- chocolates? chinita? girls wearing skirts? BAD ANSWERS. haha.
- i'd rather call it AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT. just cite 2-3 AFIs. pag dinamihan mo pa, it might leave an impression na mas madami ka AFIs kesa strenghts. don't forget to say what steps you are currently taking to improve and it will not pose as a risk to the job you are interviewing for.
HYPOTHETICAL/SITUATIONAL QUESTIONS...
- will always be a part of the interview.
- always remember the basic recruiting principle, PAST BEHAVIOR PREDICTS FUTURE BEHAVIOR IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS.
QUESTIONS ABOUT CHANGE?
- don't forget to cite how you adjusted to the change.
HOW'S YOUR SEX LIFE?
- is unethical.
- personal bias on recruiters asking personal questions... not a good company to work in. sorry.
WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER APPLICANTS? WHAT'S YOUR EDGE?
- read the job description. usually, meron yan sa mga online postings in jobstreet and the likes. the job description most likely presents the benchmark, which translates to the typical candidate. give answers that would make you seem better than what is in the job description.
i, thank you.

would have to agree. i've turned down a lot of high level people just because mayabang sila pero pag ininterview mo, wala naman palang binatbat... remember that the HR/Recruitment interview is always the 1st step. wag ismolin. :P

^ usually yung mga ganyang high level people are graduates/products of La Salle, Assumption, etc
what i meant with high level were MANAGERS and UP. :)
^ of course hinde ko naman nilalahat, I'm just basing on my experience but not generally speaking :D
Sa mga nag-apply mostly they select or prioritize graduates from prestigious school like La Salle, Ateneo, etc.
it's a misconception. na pag galing ka sa top 4 schools (in no particular order: la salle, up, ust and THE ateneo), preferred ka na AGAD. no it's not the case. basta graduate (kung kasama sa rqts) ka at magaling ka, pak! malaki ang chance mo na makapasok.
plus, personally, hindi ako impressed sa mga meron MA/MBA tapos wala naman work experience to back it up. it gives me an impression na ayaw pa mag work ni candidate kaya sya nag-aral nalang. impressed ako dun sa mga napapagsabay ang work at school.
OT: diba mas maarte magsalita ang mga taga THE Arreneow?
Share ko lang
Several interviewers will also ask whether you have any weaknesses. When it comes to weaknesses, make sure that you describe the weaknesses that are ambiguous enough to be converted into strengths.
Here are some of the weaknesses that are generally discussed.
Getting Nervous around people
Today, with the advent of the new work culture where a person seldom meets another and where the only time people speak to each other is during coffee breaks, there are some people who have become introverts. This causes some people to become nervous about giving presentations and speeches.
Being a Debater
Some individuals are too passionate about work and require a reason for any change that is introduced in the company. Though this is good for the project and the product, it might rub some people the wrong way.
Going out of one's Way
There are several people in organizations all over the world who take all kinds of work from their colleagues, whether it is their work or not. While these people are an asset to the company, they may create antagonism.
Sensitive person. Taking things to heart and getting too disappointed when things are done in the wrong way.
Too helpful. Crossing limits while helping teammates.
thats true pero as a graduate who don't belong to the top 4, I felt intimidated kahit na alam ko hnde nakukuha sa school yan. I also experience being rejected by a reputable company dahil I don't belong to top 4 >:(
I just have what they don't have - Humility :D
@pinoybrusko
ahahah to each is own... pero again, wag mag generalize. :)
@elgimikero
nice. thanks for sharing those. :)
i totally agree with mang kulas regarding the top 4 univ and good thing to hear that coming from a recruiter.
its nice to know that their perspective on applicants is not based on what school they came from but is on skills
Haha
Etong tanong na ito napag-usapan na namin nung college pero nung Final Interview ko sa isang company I was surprised to hear it and natigilan talaga ako kasi hindi ko expected na maitatanong sa akin:
Tanong: Why should we not hire you?
I'm sorry but I don't see any reasons for you not to hire me. Because I think I fit in the job I am applying for.
IF you cannot pay me, then you should not hire me...hehehe...

tama naman. pero think of it on a different perspective. basic pay lang ba yun? or kasama na allowances? how about other non-monetary benefits? this is where negotiation usually comes in.
of course, we all aim for a bigger pay. pero minsan, align din natin sila sa current market price and sa pay grade ng company (plus equity among current employees at the same position and level).
^ you speak like an HR person. haha! oo tamang POV nga ganyan. always look at the total package.
kelangan din naman kasi alam mo ang industry standard for the job and level that you are applying. at the same time, makikita mo rin ang worth mo kung talagang tataasan nila.
^ haha. it's because i am really an HR/Recruitment person. :)
true, makikita mo ang worth mo kung tataasan ang sweldo mo, or ibigay ang expected salary mo without any question.
yung iba kasi, kapal ng muka makapag-expect ng salary... pag go live, patay. talo pa ng OJT.
pero ako tingin ko marami kang matatanggap once nakukuha mo yung promotion within the company rather than hopping.
(though unethical lang din in some cases)
of course, mas madami talaga opportunities pag napromote ka within your company. main reasons, you deserved it and hindi ka na dadaan sa probationary period. :) and it's also true, pag nakita ng direct competition ang value add mo (which is better than their current employees), lalakihan talaga ang sweldo mo... pero get ready for tons of added responsibilities. :)
^ true.
ako that is what i bargained kung pwede rin naman, regular na kaagad kapag lumipat.

but some of the "personal" questions (lalo na kung sa simula), are just a way to build rapport. just so the candidate becomes comfortable with the interviewer. questions such as "ilan na ang naging gf mo?" "are you gay?" et al., are just plain wrong. lalong magiging uncomfortable si candidate.

noong nag-trabaho pa ko dati, madalas part ako ng interviewing board. may mga couple of times na payabangan kaming members kung ang nasa listahan comes from our respective schools. payabangan in the sense, na mahirap na technical question ang itatanong across the board. to compare sino pinakamagaling ;) there are times na may mga managers na nag-rerequest na 'pare, di natin kelangan ng rocket scientist. puro lalaki na nga tayo dito pati ba naman girls natin mukhang lalaki pa rin. tandaan nyo ang magagandang walang alam pwedeng turuan and i'm sure everyone will volunteer to show them the ropes. PERO ang matalinong pangit.... pangit pa rin'
anyways, baka may magtanong rin sa inyo ng classic question ko regarding time management. sa trabaho namin dapat magaling ka mag-juggle ng different tasks. palaging sagot kaya nila mag-multi task.... talk is cheap. kaya may tanong akong they have them thinking and makikita mo mag-analyze and able to manage their tasks/time effectively.
anong gagawin mo? at bakit :)
I'll let my friend drive the ferrari to the hospital with the lola since pareho silang kailangan pumunta ng hospital (take note dalawa lang pede sumakay) then I will be left alone with my dream girl in the waiting shed, jackpot !!! ;D

Ngayon sinong pauunahin mo at isusunod mo at bakit?
if iisang direction lang ang pupuntahan nilang lahat, pauunahin ko ang presidente kasi may convoy siya so mas mabilis tapos ambulansiya at last ang firetruck
if magkakaiba sila ng direction, pauunahin ko ang ambulansiya, followed by fire truck at last ang presidente. Ambulansiya needs to be at the hospital right away ang fire truck madedelay din kahit makapunta na sa location dahil masikip ang mga eskinita at last ang presidente, as Pinoy said, kayo ang boss ko. ;D
Why should i hire you?
What are your weaknesses?
Why are you still single?
How's your sex life?
mga ganun... hehehe =)
i recently had an interview with the HR head of this healthcare company. i swear, i wanted to punch that lady in the face when she asked me to cite an example of when i had conflict in the family. plain unethical.
difficult question sa akin ay
"WHAT IS YOUR QUALITIES"
BWAHAHAHA!!! wala pa man din akong gaanung alam sa ngayon bwahahaha

well it is but i think it is part of the interview process. I was even asked before on what is the status of my relationship with my family. Although quite personal but I believe that they are just gauging on how well you work with people or how you deal with conflicts.

well, if it's part of their interview process, i think it's not a good company to work in. questions like that (especially personal ones) are not supposed to be included in the interview. if they want to gauge how well candidates can work with people or how to deal conflicts (in the workplace), they should've asked behavioral questions which are work-related. there are a lot, i swear.
I don't know how they work. I just think it is part of the interview process asking personal questions and how do people respond if asked about this kind of question.
My friend told me before that they were asked "how will you describe the color blue to a blind person since birth." A typical call center interview question.
yup. Napakahirap nga namang sagutin. I think there is no right or wrong answer.

yeap. usually, ganun nga. the recruiter is just gauging yung verbal communication skills ng aplikante. :)

kaya it pays to know the industry standards. research! :)
what are my weaknesses.
What is your edge?
Malay ko ba naman sa competition ko? If they will give me time to interact with them(applicants) and check their resumes baka may masabi pa ako. Why not just simply ask, "Why should we hire you?" :P
what is the most challenging stuff that happen? explain and how did u deal wd it.
-next question please!!!
tell something about yourself
-
what is your motto?
^pang warm up lng mga ganitong questions..para mabawasan kaba ng applicant, pero simple questions can make or break you din. Kasi baka mali mali grammar mo! hehehe
ako la paki, kasi when I'm nervous, di ko na lam pinagsasabi ko. wa paki pati sa grammar. hehehe
rate yourself from 1 - 10, 10 being the highest.. tanung sken noong dummy interview namin
9. 1 point for improvement.
What are your weaknesses?

Any sample? How would you say it?
example, kung strenght mo is being focused sa work, ie hitting and exceeding goals, pwedeng weakness mo is social interaction with the team.

Thanks to this thread! By the way Im a newbie here.
Describing colors to a blind person...
Yung pabaliktad na tanong like; Why shouldn't I hire you?
that "why should i not hire you?" question... is a trick question.
madali lang yan... areas for improvement.
sagutin ang basic na tanong na "what are your weaknesses?"
make your strenghts your weaknesses. hahahha
"what is your best asset that can benefit our company?
Same here... I just prepare a very cliche answer to impress the HR. :P

What is your expected salary?
What are your strengths and weaknessesssssss?
how will u introduce color pink to a blind person . medyo nag lag utak ko :DD

majority of the success in job interviews, i can say na nadadaan lang sa tamang benta ng sarili sa kumpanya.
The usual first question: Tell me about yourself! HAHAHAHA :o
what are the top-X (number you wish) non-negotiables that you are looking for in a job?
It was annoying when it was asked, but i realized it was very beneficial for both parties.
How would you describe the color blue to a blind person? Why did you resign?

Yes. What would be your answers to those 2 questions?

i should say depende eh, may companies kasi na willing idisregard ang comm skills, as long as you have the technical knowledge they need... and point is, pde ka nman nila itrain.
I think it's more of internal deliverables nila. If it's nearing the deadline for Recruitment's quota, eh di pasado na pag pumasa sa exam.
^^ perhaps not. they can look into your general packaging.
We've had employees gotten hired in our team that were very far from the job requirement. We escalated the concern, of course.
i wanna stay with my company. ayoko na ulit maexperience ung job interview. i hate it.
Why we should hire you? laging yan ang tanong! paulit ulit lagi haha kung pwede nga lang tlga sagutin yan ng "because I don't have a job" eh >:( hahah
Why did you resign from your previous job? E 3 ung previous companies ko haha. Kaya bawal na magresign mahirap na.
OT question: during job interview, pwede magsinungaling? hehehe

uuyyy...salamat. every time na tinatanong ako during interview kung ano work ng parents at mga kapatid ko. yan kasi isa sa mga factor na nahihirapan ako mkahanap ng work.
