Title: Share your first time in the Gym

started working out. no intention to have big body since hindi naman kailangan (pero teka, parang pang-upper body yata lahat pinapagawa sakin, ayoko maging bouncer, wala yatang tulad namin na malaki katawan) :) for health reason lang

lots of comedy  ;D warm up pa lang mali na agad. ang nadampot ko na inaakala kong metal stick na pang-warm up, hindi pala. yun yung nilalagyan ng weights...

umalis ang instructor naglakas ng loob ako gawin mag-isa ang pagbuhat kaya wala pang 15 counts bagsak sa dibdib ko ang binubuhat ko  :D

mga 45 mins lng ung first work out q.. tpos hirap na hirap aq sa 10 lbs.. me spot pa yun..

tpos next day eh hinde q magamit ang mga kamay ko.. Ang bigat ng ballpen, hirap din aqng ibaba ang mga braso ko at naka-astang parang T-Rex.. 1 week na ganun ung case ko.. Pero it didn't stop me from going back to the gym..

first time ko, hindi ako masyado nagbuhat. nanonood lang kasi ako sa iba muna para alam kong gamitin.
dun lang ako sa safe at alam ko na, treadmill at stationary bike.

actually i just had my first time nung friday :)
it wasn't a gym talaga. sa condo lang ng classmate ko may public not-so-gym doon
ayon nagaya lang yung mga classmates ko na magtry
ang natry ko eh ung para sa back muscles haha 3 sets 15 repetitions 4 na bakal ata ung nilagay
nakakangalay lang after and i found it good kasi nagkaroon kagad ng konting effect haha
so im thinking of going for a 'real' gym na talaga :D

I suggest you should.. try FF para magka gym mates na kyo ni jude or GG nmn. Mejo mahal nga lang xa (for me). You can also try Slimmers.

Sir, i'm not yet a careerman compared to others. i'm still a student. di pa po ako makakaafford sa ganyan. haha sa 30 pesos na lang cguro dito sa kanto namin :D

start ka na lang muna sa ganyan. ako mga 35 and 50 pesos lang per session e  ;D

nung hindi pa ako member ng FF sabi sakin nung membership consultant... "invest in your health sir.." wow! and i did.. nag-join ako... tas nung mga 1 week na ako..
lumapit yung PT, tanong sakin.. "sir may PT na po ba kayo? para mas matutuka kayo.." sagot ko.. "eh kuya ang mahal po ng bayad sa PT eh" sagot niya...

well, you don't have to get a personal trainer kase sobrng expensive un.. if u want a work out program. I can give it 2 u for free. hehehehe! no need for personal trainer..

in short, ang kailangan mo lng eh gym + nutrition + dedication. You can ask those trainers for a spot only. Pero advise ko na i-befriend nyo muna cla pra hinde nmn sobrng jahe to ask.

kulang un..

pag nagchest ka kase eh nawoworkout din pati ung triceps mo tsaka anterior deltoid.. (nosebleed, hehehe. ito ung base ng arm mo n ung front section area)

dpat mgnda dn ang shoulders mo kase makikita ung kaibahan nito kht na nakat-shirt ka pa.. obvious pa dn tignan.

dpat mganda dn ang legs mo.. kase ang panget nmn tignan kung para kang c Johnny Bravo..

Pero gusto q lng i-clarify na hinde mo xa kailangang itrain lhat sa isang session lng.. dpat at least 1 big muscle group at 1 small muscle group lang..

big muscle group: chest, back, legs, abs
small muscle group: biceps, triceps, traps, deltoids

sa big muscle eh u can lift heavy weights while light nmn sa small muscle group.

well,ok lng.. anyway here's my workout pattern, pwede nyong ichange dpende sa desire ninyo..

monday - shoulder and legs
wednesday - chest and biceps
friday - back and triceps

lhat ng workout eh me nakasinget na ab workout sa dulo..

it depends sa gagawin mo.
regular fitness, 30mins to an hour every day is actually great for your health.

hmm, if u r aiming to increase your muscle mass... aka. ung magka obvious muscle eh u need to train at least 3x a week with at least 1 day rest in between.. it goes like this:

M - work out
T - rest day
W - work out
Th - rest day
F - work out
Sat - break
Sun - break

pwede mong i-adjust yan dpende sa sched mo.. The reason kya me mga rest day eh to give ur body enough time to recover from ur intense workout. Yan din ung time na makakaramdam ka ng DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), eto ung sumasaket ung mga muscles mo the next day. Moreover, pra makaiwas ka din sa over fatigue/ over training.

FYI, ang process ng pagbubuild natin ng muscle eh hinde sa workout day kunde sa REST DAY na kung saan nirerepair ng ktawan mo ung mga micro-tears na gawa ng muscle overload dun sa workout day mo yesterday. Also as much as possible eh sleep for 8 hours.

hahaha nice experience. buti hinde tinest ang limit mo sa gym yung bang hanggang to the last power mo ay umaalalay pa yung instructor sa bench press. Ung metal stick na lang wala na palang weights tapos di mo pa din iyon maitaas  ;D

this happens to all pero mali iyon dapat hinde binibigla lalo na pag first time. I experience this, one week akong hinde nakapasok sa school  ;D

1st tym ko s gym yinaya lang ako ng clasmeyt ko kc daw gusto nyang magpapayat sakto naman next week pupunta kmi ng beach so i decided n sumama para magandang tignan ang atawan ko kpag pumnta kmi ng beach,nung una ndi ko lam ang ga2win taz binigyn ki ng tube taz pinagstreching kmi ang skit ng kalamnan ko on d following day ndi ako mkagalaw...taz tinuloytuloy kupa...until now

pag may muscles na din ang katawan mo you feel you already belong but pag wala pa andun pa din ang intimidating effect. Kaya much better if you have the money buy your own equipments at home

hmm, pero bihira sa guys ang magkaron ng scoliosis.. Usually gurls lng meron.. Namamana ba ito? Or sa kinakain like insufficient calcium intake?

I think merong 2 types of scoliosis.. ung S type at ung E type.. not sure.

Sabi nung kakilala qng gurl na me scoliosis eh dpat pantay lagi ung binubuhat.. bwal ung 1 sided lng kase masama sa back..

OT:
Pag nagbubuhat ka ng weigths eh masmagiging dense yung mga bones mo. Mapapansin mo dn na prang masmabigat ka eventhough pag tinignan ka eh prang normal lang..

Ganito kse ung sakin.. Pag tinignan sa weighting scale eh overweight aq.. pero pag tinignan yung katawan q eh prang payat nman..

yung scoliosis namamana pero ang big factor nito lack of calcium ng food intake. Milk is a great source of calcium. Yung mga hinde umiinom ng milk marami ang nagkakaron ng scoliosis.

Gusto ko mag gym. Ang payat ko, imagine 5"6' tapos 115 lbs lang ako. I plan to do it the next month. Siguro na-intimidate ako kaya ayoko muna this month. My purpose is to be fit lang.

dati nga ako nung college 118 lbs. lang..tas ang height ko eh 5'9... buti dahan-dahan nag-gain ako.. ngayon 148 lbs na ako.. kulang pa.. kailanga ko pang mag-gain pa ng konti..  lakasan mo pa pagkain mo saka mag-gym ka rin jaguar.. kahit mag-start ka lang sa mga mumurahing gym..

I'm 5'4" pero 150 lbs.. ngyn eh I think somewhat 160 lbs na ata..

first time ko sa gym, pinahirapan ako ng instructor. di ko magalaw katawan ko kinabukasan. hanggang nasanay nlng ako.

dati 110 lb lng ako ngaun mas ok na, 125 lb pero payat parin around 5'6" ako eh. hirap ako maggain lalo na't marami akong physical activities.

nun bago pa ako s gym, hiya ako maghubad sa locker room kasi ang taba ko nun, ..... but now, nakikisabayan na ako s kanila...... basta lng maganda ang underwear ko. hahahaha  ;)

actually, naging concern q dn to.. ung sa underwear.. kase ok lng sakin magsuot ng baconed briefs pero since madame ang titingin eh napilitan aqng bumile ng 3 pieces of bench briefs pra sa 3x na work out q.. Pra mgnda tignan.

Good for you. Ewan ko ba..light exercise, tinatamad na ako..pano pa kaya if weight training na... Well..no guts no glory.

bale i-enjoy mo n lng ang pagbubuhat.. Pag aq nagbubuhat eh ang daming mga taong nakatingin. This gives me encouragement to produce more forced rep.

first time mga 3O or 4O mins.lng grabe ang lakas ng kabog ng dibdib ko ung nahihiya haha,hnd pa ako nag buhat masyado konting cardio,tas kung ano ano na,lalo pag umaalis ung instructor ko hnd ko alam ang gagawin.hehe
pro may kabatian na rin ako ung mga kaibigan ng kuya ko tas pnaklala ako ng mga kaibgan ng kuya ko sa iba pa nlang kaibgan kya ok.mag punta sa gym.

Oo nga I want to know rin kung pwede everyday pero different muscles ang target.

base sa nababasa ko before, as a beginner ok daw yung 3-4 times a week na gym na tig1hr.
pero siguro wala namang masama na everyday as long as different muscle group ang iwoworkout mo per day.

one week ako straight nagwowork out tapos weekends rest ko

Ma-ishare lng ng alam ko. (Sa nababasa ko lang din ito ah.) Sa mga gaining ito, kc ito ginagamit ko.

Although depende sa program, importante at least meron talagang 2 rest days per week. Para sa mga gaining program, mas madali ang ang on-off routine.

Ideal time sa gym should not be more than 1hr 30 mins. Nauubos ang testosterone high mo pagkatapos, then your body starts utilizing protein stores for energy. Ako 1hr lang talaga kung mag gym.

Mas mabuti kung compound muscle groups ang target ng routine mo. Encourages testosterone release.

So basically, spend only 1 hour at the gym doing heavy and/or core group exercises then make sure to have more than 36 hours rest (at least 24 hours) before your next routine. Kung toning program, di ko na kabisado yan.

Thanks sa mga tips! Mga 1 hour din workout ko tapos rest the following day kc more on gaining rin ako. Yung ideal time ba sa gym na 1 hr 30 mins kasama na ang cardio? Dapat ba may cardio lagi before mag-weights? :)

Sa mga taong nagpapa-gaining, di na kailangan masyado ang cardio.

Siguro kung mag-cacardio ka, gawin mo lang once a week, on a set date na wala kang workout.

Kung mag-Legs routine ka sa araw na yan, pwede mo isali ang jogging/stationary bike sa warm up mo. Pang-lubricate lng ng joints.

tama yun. hindi na kailangan ng cardio if for muscle gain. lalo lang mauubos lakas mo para magbuhat.
nakikita mo lang yung iba nag cardio para lang warm up. moderate level tapos 10 mins lang.

enzo, i think at your age, you still benefit so much from being active in sports. wak mo masyadong isipin ang pag cacardio.

grabe chubby ako nung first time kong mag-gym at nakakailang dahil puro buffs ang mga kasama ko. college pa ako noon eh, at siyempre si gym instructor kung anu-ano sinasabi (na heto ang routine, etc etc)

ang pinaka-bizarre sa first day ko sa gym eh yung mga foreigner na hubo kung hubo talaga. at mula noon, ginaya ko na sila hahaha!

i started working out noong 1st year college, i was really thin as in i can scoop my obliques and able to wear my sister's jean. uso kasi noon ang boy jeans sa mga babae were girls wear jeans na panlalaki. payat rin kapatid ko 26in waist. kaya yung binili nyang 27in na jeans kasya sa akin :)

i started on my own kaya wala akong tanungan madalas kwentong barbero pa ang impormasyon such as para sa mga payat pataba muna kasi ang taba nagiging muscle.... biggest myth of the century.

naalala ko pa noon sa school gym, last set ng lat pulldown ko.... tricep pull down warm-up lang ng nakiki-alternate sa ayin sa lat machine... sadly naka-isang buwan lang ako nag-gym dahil ako ata pinakapayatot non. pataba na alng muna ko bago bumalik. after a year of carbo loading from 27in waist it shoot up to 30in. i gain weight and still my fats never turned to muscle hahaha then tigil  saka na lang bumalik na taon rin umabot.

train mo buong katawan mo not just several muscles. kasi minsan yung iba ang laki nga ng chest ang lapad nga nung back, pero isang floor lang ang inakyat hinihingal na. ibig sabihin mahina ang heart muscle. May power pero wala endurance.

i;m currently doing crossfit SS hybrid. SS = Starting strength aka rippetoe's 5x5 dito nadevelop ang strenght ko in 12 weeks nagsimula ako ng hirap na hirap magkapag pull-ups na body weight lang but after the program kaya ko na mag-pull-ups plus 35lbs.... never imagined i can do that. pati benchpress napako ako dati sa 200lbs afrer the program max 1 rep weight ko is 325lbs.

as for the crossfit. eto ang meaning including the factors that affect our over-all fitness.

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program. We have designed our program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.



    Endurance – The ability of body systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen (cardiovascular/respiratory endurance).
    Stamina – The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store, and utilize energy. (capacity to maintain repetitive muscular movements)

to test your fitness, i got this intro WOD ng Crossfit manila... do the benchmarking work-out below for 15 minutes. A very fit person should be able to do 7 sets. On the average dapat 5 complete sets. Lower than that medyo out of shape.

Exercise Set
- Wall Balls 7 reps
- Pull Ups 7 reps
- Box Jumps 7reps
- Burpees 7reps

Strenght training: cleans 60lbs 5x3
WOD; 3 rounds of

20.sit ups

20 air squats

Last week dito ako bumigay
100 pull ups
100 push ups
100 sit ups
100 squats... etongast exercise di ko na nagawa malapit na kong suka at hilo na s gutom... di ako naka meryenda hours before my work out and 9pm na ko nag start way past my dinner

nung first day ko, physical assesment ginawa saken,sinukat ang chest, biceps,legs,etc. tapos nirecord nila sa profile ko,nalaman dun na hindi pantay ang balikat ko,mas gamit daw yung mucles ko sa kanan,etc..tapos tinest yung resistance ko..treadmill,cycling,push ups,situps..papalit palit..
hanggang sa bumigay katawan ko at nahilo na ko at binigyan nlng nya ko ng candy,hahaha..and then second day binigyan na ko ng program at tinuro kung pano gamitin yung mga machines..hanggang sa makaya ko na mag free weights..

Mas okay pag may kasama ka para di ka kabahan. Nung first time ko, may kasama ako pero iniwan ako after one week kasi nag-abroad kaya mag-isa na lang ako tapos nag-stop na rin ako. After 2 years balik ulit sa gym at may kasama ulit pero after 1 month, iniwan ulit ako kasi lumipat ng work kaya mag-isa ulit ako.

Yep.. that was last June. They call it BodyFirst. Three sessions to start with, then the actual PT starts on the 4th session if you enroll to their program.

You can start with setting your goal. Why do you want to go the gym, then search for a community gym or fitness club. Depending on how much you are willing to spend for the gym.

hmm.. rare sa guys ang scoliosis.. teka anung type ba ung sayo? karaniwan eh S-type..

pwede ka mag-gym pero wag kang magbubuhat ng mabigat..

makakatulong ang gym sa pagtibay ng buto mo.. just do exercises na di nakaka-stress sa back bone mo..

pero of course, I would advise na magpa-physical therapist ka and ask your doctor bout it..

bale kasabay nung pagjoin ko dito, mga may 2011 siguro tas minsan break ng mga 1 month. ngayon nga tinatamad na naman ako eh, partida may sarili na kaming gym. puro kasi training sa sayaw eh kaya ayun. pero ayos pa rin naman salamat sa dancing.  ;D

pero nun talagang unang beses ko sa gym, poker face hahaha XD

nakakahiya lang nung una komg punta sa gym. syempre di ko alam mga do's and dont's. nag treadmill ako, 6 ung max speed. nung ayaw ko na, tinigil ko lang bigla para magpunta sa ibang equipt. suddengly i feel dizzy na halos himatayin ako. buti nalang nandoon mga office mates ko. pinainom ako ng gatorade..sobrang nakakahiya dahil maraming tao that time at agaw atensyon ako. sorry naman first time lang po.
