Yung sinasabi mong symptoms josh, it's possibly GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease. nangyayari ito dahil yung lower esophageal sphincter (LES) mo ay lumuluwag. ang LES ay nakikita near the junction of the esophagus and stomach. it only opens kapag may food na dadaan papuntang stomach. as we all know, yung tiyan natin ay napaka acidic na organ. when the LES relaxes, the sensation na parang mahirap huminga and masakit ang dibdib may be due to the acidic substances that refluxes from the stomach.

what causes the LES to relax naman? madami tayong iniiwasan na dapat gawin. shempre, iwas sa food na nagcacause ng GERD tulad ng kape, tea, citrus food/drink, chocolates, and chili. also, kapag matapos na kumain, huwag agad humiga, like allow at least 30 minutes before lying down supine. :-)

medical treatment includes intake of certain medications. :-) private message me if you want to know what medications ang pwede. ayoko ipost in public baka ma-misuse ng reader. :-)

Nagkakaroon ng risk for developing resistance to the antibiotics kapag na misuse yun. :-)

sakit ng ulo ko kagabi siguro tension headache as i check google there are many types of headaches. di ako uminom ng analgesic or sleeping pill, ayoko masanay katawan ko sa medicine. Eventually, after an hour or two nakatulog naman ako

2. talaga? kakahiya naman ito kung ito ang reputation ng mga duktor. hehehe. sa amin hindi naman, pansin ko on time naman sila. if may pagkakataon na late man, galing sa isa pang previous appointment. hindi kasi minsan predictable kung gaano ka tagal or ka billis ang isang doctor's appointment e. hehe. :-)

tama ka pinoybrusko, there are several types of headaches. important naman dito is yung character or temporal profile nung headache. is this the worst headache of your life? stressed ka ba? are there associated disturbing signs and symptoms? how is the headache described (pulsating or throbbing?) any history related to trauma?

ayun. madami naman. so if you consulted a doctor and told him/her the history of headache, papagawan ka naman niya siguro ng necessary tests. sa ngayon, try mo muna yung mga pain relievers.

Well yeah maraming ganun. Laging mahaba ang pila for consultation, tapos late pa. Siguro nga dahil kulang na rin tayo ng doctors, which is sad and alarming.

that is true. well at least a general consultation/diagnosis would suffice. definitely seeing a doctor is still the best option. :)

although, a lot of people, me included, try to self-medicate by educating myself from information found on the net.

Yung almoranas eh may tatlong klase: external, internal at thrombosed.

Since it was new to me eh nabothered ako na baka "cancerous" siya.. So nagpacheckup ako.. Tpos nung natanggal nya eh prang nag-desitegrate ung laman.. Parang sapal na  lang ang natira.

Asking because kinagat ako ng lamok.

Dengue is typically transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti and rarely Aedes albopictus. The virus has four different serotypes and an infection with one usually gives lifelong immunity to it but only short term immunity to the others. There is currently no available vaccine and prevention is via attempts to reduce the habitat and number of mosquitoes as well as limiting exposure to bites.

so hindi pa rin immune dahil 4 yung strains?

And bakit hindi kaya magdevelop ng vaccine since alam naman nila 4 yung strains, unlike yung common cold na laging nage-evolve?

you'll be immune only to that strain. kaso there are still three known strains. immunity in dengue is offered by type of strain. hindi makadevelop ng vaccine for that kasi the other strains are difficult to culture for study purposes and since it would take a lot experimental studies or clinical trials for a vaccine to be recommended as prophylaxis.

Title: Re: the doctor is in....
Post by: carpediem on December 23, 2010, 11:55:46 AM
Saan ba naka-"store" yung immunity ng isang tao? Does immunity entirely rely on antibodies, or are there other things besides antibodies that could make you immune to certain diseases?

Let's say I'm immune to disease x. If someone is a recipient of my blood, does he develop immunity to x?
Title: Re: the doctor is in....

Thanks doc for the explanation and very nice analogy  ;D

Ganun pala, I thought once your body develops a certain antibody, it will not "forget" it anymore and will continue to produce it. So mali pala. That means I may still get chickenpox for example even if I already had it when I was small.
Title: Re: the doctor is in....

nice one kilo. :-)

about pre-eclampsia, just an addition to what kilo said:

pre-eclampsia = gestational hypertension (BP >140/90 after 20 weeks gestation) + proteinuria (urinalysis with > +1 protein or >300mg in 24 hours)

kelangan ito ma-control dahil kapag naging severe ang pre-eclampsia, maaari magdevelop ng iba't ibang complications yung patient such as HELLP syndrome or si baby pwede magka-IUGR or intrauterine growth restriction.

basically, kapag severe pre-eclampsia, meron headache, mga visual sisturbances like blurring of vision, pananakit ng tiyan tsaka yung protein sa urinalysis > or equal to +2. yung diastolic pressure (example 120/90, yung 90 ang diastolic pressure) ay more than or equal to 110 mmHg.

ang HELLP syndrome pala, ibig sabihin nun, H for hemolysis, EL  for elevated liver enzymes and LP for low platelet count.  makikita sa CBC ng patient usually mababa ang RBC at ang platelet count. tapos yung liver function test niya, maaring mataas ang mga liver enzymes. maaaring napaka-serious ng condition na ito kasi kapag hindi ito na-diagnose early and nagtuloy tuloy yung condition, kelangan i-deliver ang baby even if premature ito.

so essentially talaga, sa mga mother's class na tinuturo namin sa mga new buntis sa OPD namin, one of the things that they should monitor during their pregnancy is their blood pressure.

actually carpediem, if you get chickenpox, you will have lifelong immunity to it. it is because the memory cells already have antibodies to that. ibang story yung makakatanggap ka ng vaccine against chicken pox. recommendations from the guidelines say kelangan pa ng booster shot for it to provide lifelong immunity. :-)

May tanong ako. Are multivitamins what they advertise them to be? I mean, may difference ba if you take them everyday compared to not taking? Worth it ba?

actually, many doctors disagree on the necessity of intake of multivitamins. some say that since some vitamins are produced in the body and that those that can't be produced by the body can be provided by basic meals, intake of these commercial vitamins isn't really necessary. however, if you want to take multivitamins, for me, it is fine. kasi i think a lot of people aren't eating a balanced diet, so some vitamin requirements might not be met. with this, you have to take note though, that there can be also certain vitamin toxicities.

re: your question about multivitamins if they are what they advertise them to be, for me, they're all the same, especially if their contents are the same. tingnan mo yung contents. malamang they are advertising the component that other multivitamins don't have. :-)

- What is the difference of taking medicine before and after a meal? Morning and evening?

Kapag before meal ba masmabilis ang absorption kasi direcho sa high-absorption intestines? Kasi during meals daw nagco-close yung passage to the intestines.

hahaha! natetest ang kaalaman ko carpediem! hehehe!

actually, it depends on the medication. each drug kasi has a characteristic pharmacokinetics (and pharmacodynamics). so there are some drugs that need to be taken prior to intake of meals, for example yung mga proton-pump inhibitors like omeprazole kasi it inhibits yung tinatawag namin na H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system (that's the proton pump) sa gastric parietal cells. so before pa makapagproduce ng very acidic pH yung tiyan, nacontrol na agad ng gamot yung environment kaya hindi nagkakahyperacidity. however, there are also some medications that need to be taken with meals or after meals, tulad ng ibang NSAIDs like Mefenamic Acid, etc kasi they can cause gastric irritation, etc, so mas lalong macomplicate or magasgas yung tiyan.

in other words, yung gamot, may kanya kanyang qualities yan. so hindi lahat best to be taken before meals or after meals. :-)

ok will ask hehe

- Is (cow) milk good for humans? I have read articles that say they are not really good for humans, especially for the lactose-intolerant.

- Are those calcium-enriched milk really beneficial like how they advertise them to be? They say calcium can't really be absorbed that way. Furthermore, it's still not proven that calcium helps prevent osteoporosis.

I'll try to post links of what I've read before if I can still find them.

Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PA-buwI3q4

It is a Google Tech Talk entitled Nutrients for Better Mental Performance.

I watched it the second time and here are a few notes from me. (Ony those relevant to my interests as I do not understand many of the topics presented.) I hope Doc ctan and Doc Kilo can give their comments, reactions, and insights (and say if most of these are true or BS).

4:26 Smart pills are not sustainable.

9:53 "The joys of masturbation lead to Zinc deficiencies and that causes the brain to stop functioning. Masturbation leads to insanity. (Your grandmother was right!)"

11:04 Estrogens have an anti-metabolic effect. They impair your synthesis of energy.

13:53 Sleep in the dark.

15:52 wheat, corn, yeast, milk - top food allergies

16:55 Stages of sleep. "You have to be deeply asleep to be deeply awake."

24:35 Nutrition myths.

26:25 Myth: "Milk and bread are good, healthy foods." Milk is one very fast way to develop osteoporosis.

31:19 Myths to Live By.
- Eat low-carb veggies
- Eat tiny to moderate amounts of meat
- Ketosis

Assume:
- Industry ads are lies.
- Food pyramid is upside down.
- Your doctor is profoundly ignorant. "If you know what your doctor knows/doesn't know, you are in a better position to protect yourself against possible adverse side-effects."
- All experts are biased.

37:31 Benefits and costs of alcohol

38:34 Milk-bread question

40:00 You get better calcium from grain than milk.

41:08 The casein and whey in milk are the risk factors, as well as galactose. Any low fat milk product has milk solids added to it, which produce cataracts.

42:05 People who don't drink milk have a lower risk of osteoporosis.

42:48 Carbohydrate control (Ketosis) is number 1 prescription for insulin resistance.

43:26 More on ketosis

46:26 Glutathione. It is not efficient and sustainable.

47:47 Milk and cataracts

58:15 Coffee. Caffeine is an insecticide. Caffeine is a minor irritant.

Disclaimer: These are opinions of the presenter, and he himself says not to believe in him, as "All experts are biased."

I think he over sensationalized many of his statements.

His view on milk I think is to avoid it if you have alternatives to get the necessary nutrients, given that many people are lactose intolerant (50% in the US, 90% in Asians if I'm not mistaken).

Further he claimed that drinking milk
- has "obvious" connections to developing cataract
- is one very fast way to develop osteoporosis

Now these are very controversial statements that evoked violent reactions from the audience in the video.

Simply doing a search on google about milk + cataract or milk + osteoporosis actually gives several contradictory claims.

Naku... mahabang discussion to...

Madaming things nagpapataas ng body temperature.... , infection, inflammation, dehydration, ovulation, increased metabolism (due to thyroid hormone abnormality) and Cancer. So sa increased temperature, doctors usually look for other things kasi hinde talaga helpful ang increased body temperature as a symptom.

Pero knowing that you're a body builder, malaking possibility na mataas ang temp mo because of fat burners unless of course you're not taking any of them or your body is just burning a lot of energy due to muscle mass. malaking possibility na subjective ang perception mo ng increased body temperature at puwede kasing malamig lang talaga ung environment mo.

Increased libido and aggression may be linked to a more psychological problems unless you're taking testosterone drugs. Its more linked to personality disorders (histrionic, antisocial, narcissistic), ego problems, gender identity problems, and bipolar disorders. There might be a problem at home or the environment is pushing a person become more aggressive or hypersexual. Sometimes... nasa perception lang yan... Feeling mo lang mas napapadalas kasi pinapansin mo. Kailangan yan ng further evaluation.

Testosterone is highly regulated hormone by the body meaning hinde basta basta umaakyat yan. Although linked ang testosterone to aggression.. you would have to have a testicular, adrenal cancer or injectable drugs in order to arrive to that level...

you may be killing yourself with high fat intake. Although testosterone is converted from cholesterol... The body also creates a lot of stress hormone in the process. and in an effort to increase testosterone, bodybuilders get heart attacks kasi clogged ang arteries nila despite feeling nila athletic sila And Remember: if there is too much testosterone in your body because of drug intake... it makes smaller testicles.

Edit: added more information.

Yup, Kilo. I'm eating high cholesterol food. I don't do the injectibles.. Too dangerous. plus very expensive and hard to find. Tsaka dangerous lalo na ung "roid rage".

Don't worry, my testicles didn't shrink kht icheck mo p. Hahahaha! Reminds me of Aikawa who asked the same related things sa akin.

smoking and drinking are just other risk factors. but high cholesterol diet in itself is also a risk factor, so precautions are in place, supposedly. there are hyposthenic people who do get hypercholesterolemia, some genetic, some due to lifestyle. so body stature isn't really an assurance.

what is positional vertigo?

aaahhh... the condition itself is commonly called BPPV or benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. pinakacommon itong cause ng vertigo. so vertigo, meaning nagkakaroon ng sense of spinning. this is caused by a defect or disturbance sa inner ear ng tao.

sa inner ear kasi ng tao, meron tayong tinatawag na semicircular canals, which contains fluids and when we change position, these canals send signals to the brain telling it kung anong position inaasume ng tao. however, sa BPPV, may mga calcium-like materials tayo na tinatawag na otoliths (mga calcium carbonate particles ito), na inappropriately displaced dun sa semicircular canals. and these send abnormal signals sa brain with regards to the position thereby causing yung positional vertigo na tinatawag natin. ang otoliths nga pala normally come from the utricles and saccules dun din sa inner ear. kapag may head trauma, diseases dun sa area, or even aging, maaaring madisplace itong mga otoliths na to sa semicircular canals.

People with blood pressure readings of 140/90 or higher, taken on at least 2 occasions, are said to have high blood pressure. If the pressure remains high, your doctor will probably begin treatment.

suggest ko mag monitor ka araw araw, same time, same venue. make sure na resting rate mo yun, meaning hindi ka galing sa pagtakbo, bagong kain, kakagising lang, etc..

kapag palaging mataas, then maaring hypertensive ka na. kailangan hanapin yung cause. medyo related kasi yan sa kidney, pagkain ng mga maalat, masyadong mataba, etc... basta magpa work up ka para sure.

Question. When you are scheduled for blood test, do you need to fast the night before?

When I was confined before and they took blood samples from me, hindi rin ako pina-fast. But a few times they specifically said that I need to fast when they told me to get a blood test the next day.

Does it depend on the type of blood test to be performed?

Also, what are the guidelines for fasting? I've heard that more than 12 hours is over-fasting. Is drinking of liquids allowed?

Depends. Maraming blood tests. Pero i'll discuss siguro the most common ones.

Pag Complete Blood Count (CBC) hinde kailangan magfast.

Usually you need to fast for blood sugar, lipids tests kasi food intake will distort these values. 12 hours is usually enough, and we usually suggest starting the fast after dinner and taking the blood test first thing in the morning.  You can drink a glass of water once in the morning but not sugared drinks.

RE: other ones, i'll answer them later when i'm free... medyo busy eh. i'm sure the nurses can answer some of them :D

tama, hypertension is just the same banana with high blood. layman's term kasi ang highblood.

in classifying hypertension, we follow the JNC-7 guidelines na kapag equal or above 120/80 ang BP mo, ikaw ay classified na as PREHYPERTENSIVE. Hanggang 139/89 ang prehypertensive stage. ibig sabihin lang ng prehypertensive is that increased na ang risk mo to develop hypertensive in the future and that kelangan mo na magkaroon ng lifestyle modification to prevent it. kapag naman equal or above 140/90 hanggang 159/99 ang BP mo, ikaw ay STAGE 1 HYPERTENSIVE. and kapag more than or equal to 160/100 ang BP mo, STAGE 2 HYPERTENSIVE ka naman na. :-)

if ever stage 1 or stage 2 hypertensive ka, you need to see a doctor kasi you need to start on medications so as to prevent or delay the end-stage diseases of hypertension. :-)

eto lang marfz, kung essential hypertension yan, iwas ka na kumain ng mga maaalat na mga pagkain. salty foods are the number one cause of hypertension. then you have to do lifestyle modifications such as regular exercise, avoid a sedentary lifestyle, smile and laugh more often. :-)

regarding eating yung matataba na food, actuallym it doesn't cause hypertension. however, it does contribute to developing cardiac or heart problems. pwede kang magka heart attack. again, hindi high blood or hypertension ang dinudulot ng fatty foods kundi ang mga heart diseases or heart attacks. :-)

Thanks ;)
Ano po problem sa pigeon chest? You need to find an orthopedic surgeon to correct it.
Pigeon chest poses a risk factor for cardian and pulmonary problems pero usually its a cosmetic complaint.
Baka po kasi pede ma-resolve without undergoing surgery. Kasi as much as possible I don't want to suffer from it in the long run. Doc thank you nga po pala sa response

so kailangan na ba natin mag open ng topic na the nurse is in? in case the doctor is out?

Anyone is free to answer. We respect wisdom and knowledge from other people especially if its correct. Kung may nasabi naman na matino na information we will just add in more other stuff so everyone learns. Kung may mali.. nirerespeto namin yung ideas nila and we'll say our side in a nice way (unless talagang ginagago mo ako haha :P).

May times na baka mas maraming alam ang mga nurses, PT, med tech (i love their knowledge sa labs), and even patients. We have the internet naman as a resource; there are cases I have to open the book and read and cross-reference sa isang reliable site or a guideline.

hahaha... nagbibiro lang ako kilo sa "the nurse is in, the doctor is out."

So far limited ang medical treatment at talagang surgical ang approach nito.

You should really consult a orthopedic surgeon or a thoracic surgeon for that especially if you feel pain. Treatment is basically a surgical customized approach..

I am already 22 years old Sir, meron po kasi ako nase-search sa Net regarding this pero wala ako mahanap dito sa Philippines. Gusto ko magbaka-sakali magpa-brace kung kakayanin. Pero kasi whether brace or surgery kakailanganin ng malaking pera eh. I'll try to have a consultation regarding this maybe this year. So far wala pang time and ang talgang kailangan ko lang is masigurado na meron ngang consultation regarding this dito sa Philippines.

Thanks very much!

Paliguan mo yung bata ASAP or wash yung affected area.

Lewandowsky-Lutz Dysplasia. It is a very rare skin disorder which is hereditary and is characterized by the formation of warts on the human skin. It normally affects the feet and hands and usually occurs between 1 to 20 years of age. There is no known cure and the warts can only be removed through surgery (https://www.pinoyguyguide.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftop-10-list.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2009%2F08%2FLewandowsky-Lutz-Dysplasa.jpg&hash=64f898f9a0ab58a4f6c353b40a48881b723ba419)

Cutaneous Porphyria
When a person affected by this disease is exposed to direct sunlight, his urine can turn black, brown, pink or purple.

Progeria
This diseased is characterized by premature aging where a young individual can manifest the features and look like an aged person. Medical experts believe that this odd medical condition has something to do genetic mutation and is not considered hereditary. There are no known cures for this disease and the young sufferers generally survive only up to their 13th birthday.

JUN,

Your symptom might be called photopsia. Maraming pwedeng dahilan. Yung last two, mas common sa mga matatanda. Sumakit ba ulo mo?

Anyway, magpacheck-up ka na sa Ophthalmologist. Some conditions sa eye that present with photopsia ay mga medical emergencies. :-)

MARFZ,

ang mga twitching sa eyelids mo are most commonly caused by pagod, stress, puyat, sobrang kape, etc. Remedy?

ELGIMIKERO,

If wala kang jaundice (paninilaw ng balat) and wala kang icteric sclera (paninilaw ng mata), most probably DIRTY SCLERA lang yan. It's usually caused by irritation or even dry eyes syndrome. there's no treatment sa mga ganung klaseng condition. However, pwede ka maglagay ng mga artificial tears (eg. hypromellose) and ipatak mo sa mga mata mo as needed. and also, avoid mo yung paglagay ng kung anu-ano sa mata mo, or be alert na hindi na-iirritate ang mga mata mo. :-)

most doctors deny that they have a disease kasi they will always link it to a syndrome. Sabi nga nila, doctors are the worst patients.

I agree with you kilo, 100%! Hahaha! Doctors are the worst patients daw. Siguro in terms of compliance, follow-up, etc. Hehehe.

I have an aching chest pain in the middle of the chest and its been bothering me for a while even while sleeping. I sometimes feel my heart beating strong during sleep. I don't feel exhausted or breathless.
As exercise, I jog/walk 30 minutes around 3-4 times  week. Tried stopping exercise just to make sure its not post workout pain related... but its still there. I have like 120/80 blood pressure consistently taken by a nurse. What measures should I take? Do you think its related to heart disease? My father has high blood pressure while my grandfather has had stroke before. I'm a bit worried about it.

Overview lang ram, braxton hicks contractions are "false labor" contractions. Magkaiba yung braxton hicks from true labor such that sa braxton hicks, contractions are usually mild, irregular, and kapag na-IE walang changes sa cervix. In terms sa pain, usually braxton hicks are not painful. tsaka parang paninigas lang talaga ng tiyan.

Di pwede sakin tong propesyon na to  ;D

Nope.

most doctors deny that they have a disease kasi they will always link it to a syndrome. Sabi nga nila, doctors are the worst patients.

Wow. Quite interesting indeed. XD

- para bang may nalalasahan na maasim kapag nagbuburp?
Sometimes I get that.
Yes
- mas tumitindi ba yung chest pain kapag nakahiga? or after eating?
Occasionally yes
- is the chest pain mababaw lang or parang nasa loob?
It aches... i can't pinpoint if its superficial or not.
- meron bang pamamanhid at weakness?
I don't have weakness
- wala ka bang nakakapang bukol sa leeg?
None whatsoever
- palagi ka bang nagkakadiarrhea?
I get diarrhea from milk
- mabilis ka bang mainitan?
Nah. Its been cold lately too.

Yeah, ganun nga...

@johnthebaptist
iwasan mo ang kape, fruit juices, maaanghang na foods, and chocolates. At least 1hr after eating, huwag ka muna humiga. PM me if you want to try out meds. Your symptoms more likely point to an acid reflux disease.

Could you further explain Braxton Hicks and panu ko malalaman na di sya pre-term labor

Overview lang ram, braxton hicks contractions are "false labor" contractions. Magkaiba yung braxton hicks from true labor such that sa braxton hicks, contractions are usually mild, irregular, and kapag na-IE walang changes sa cervix. In terms sa pain, usually braxton hicks are not painful. tsaka parang paninigas lang talaga ng tiyan.
ang true labor kasi, nagkakaroon na ng pain more commonly sa may puson and/or sa lower back. well shempre, aside sa contractions ng true labor, kapag may watery vaginal discharge or vaginal bleeding tapos hindi pa sakto sa buwan ang pregnancy, it might be preterm labor already.

nagpa-check up knina and naIE si misis, nkita na 1cm daw pero floating...it means ba na pwede pa kme hanggang term nya as long as naka bed rest na sya

Mas todo bantay ka since may preeclampsia and previa kayong minamanage. I'm guessing weekly na kayo nagbibisita.

And may pre-eclampsia ba si misis mo ram?
Yung semen kasi may prostaglandin yun that may induce labor.
Usually naman, yung mga 1cm na preterm, they will reach to term. Kelangan niya lang talaga magbedrest and that means, iwas sa mga trabahong strenuous, even mga gawaing bahay iwas muna siya. Iwasan din magkainfection kaya dapat alaga din yung immune system at panatilihing malinis ang paligid ni misis as well as her body especially yung pwerta niya. Infection can precipitate preterm labor.
May gamot ba iniinom wife mo ngayon ram?
Just watch out for any vaginal bleeding, watery vaginal discharge, and regular uterine contraction associated with pain sa lower back or puson. If any of these do happen, punta kaagad sa hospital.

kanina nag pacheck-up ulit kme kc medyo fuzzy daw ung wiwi ni Misis, so pag punta ng ospital, IE ulit then urinalysis

Nkita na may UTI, so adviced to take meds and bed rest for 2 weeks.

pero still doctor's advise is to rest.

I'm currently rotating dito sa Pedia Nursery/Neonatal ICU. Maraming babies dito na preterm, on the average mga 35 weeks siguro. Ok naman sila, most have mature lungs already. We have here also a case of a 27 weeks baby. She's fine right now pero still under care sa Neonatal ICU. Hindi rin sila naka-incubator, even yung 27 weeker namin.

Hello guys, I'm new here.

I think I do have vertebral deformity. And mejo may easy fatiguability ako. (Which I presume, due to lung compression dahil sa vertebral deformity ko). Mejo poor kasi posture ko nung bata ako. I can't assess the lateral curvature of my spine, since ang hirap gawin mag-isa non, lol.

So. Scoliosis ba to? Or risk for Kyphosis/Lordosis? :/

the best thing to do is to consult an orthopedic surgeon and perhaps an xray will be done in order to assess your spine. :-)

Hmm... Amoxicillin ba or Cefalexin? In my experience kasi, these infections during the 3rd trimester tapos hindi compliant yung mother, these trigger preterm labor. Repeat urinalysis niya, kelangan normal values na.

And breech pala si baby mo.

Hehe!

My answer to your question
Teka asking the standard questions.
anong klaseng back pain? aching, dull, sharp, burning, throbbing, spastic?- aching lang
Saan located? upper back, lower back, immediately above the puwet, right side or left side? - bandang gitna. kaya kinakabahan ako dahil baka scoliosis.
May times ba na lumalala, humihina or nawawala?
From 1 to 10, 10 being excruciating pain, gaano kalakas? - siguro 5 tolerable naman sya
Anong ginawa mo the day prior to your back pain? - wala po.
Do you notice anything unusual in your bowel habits or urination?
Have you taken Paracetamol or Ibuprofen? - nope. nagpamassage lang po ako

sobra na to. tapos medyo pumapayat mukha ko. hahaha weird.

Maraming causes ng insomnia pero its usually its anxiety related or behavioral. As they say, no rest for the wicked.

behavioral could include
- always sleeping late due to too much computer time

people who don't sleep get "thinner" because they're stressed out. Also it overworks your heart kaya mas predisposed ang insomniacs to heart disease. Also, those who have a lack of sleep have poorer congnitive performance such as worse memory recall and delayed function.

To reduce the incidence of insomnia, you have to stop triggering anxiety moments and relax. This means forgetting about worries and think of relaxing things. You can impose a behavior pattern in sleeping such as doing a routine before sleeping like brushing and washing your face. These routine steps signal your brain that you're starting to sleep.

is it permanent? kaya pa ba siyang i-treat o at least i-lessen or reduce pa the size or lighten the color? is it dangerous ba na ipa-treat o hindi naman?

Hindi talaga ako masyadong observant. Hehe. Buti ka pa marvin napansin mo yun.

Anyway, ang portwine stain ay isang klaseng birthmark, so ibig sabihin it is present since birth. Ang alam ko diyan sa mga port wine stains, pwede itong mawala over time, pero since matanda ka na jude, probably it remain forever in your face. Unless of course you would have it treated. May parang laser treatment ginagawa diyan, di ko sure what type of laser pwede sa portwine stain mo kasi depende din yan sa hitsura, laki, etc ng birthmark mo. :-)

Hi Doc Ctan,

Question about anterofundal placenta grade 3

marvin,

yung HIV, pinaka main modes of transmission nito include: unprotected sex with someone na infected, sharing of needles used by an infected person, mother to baby, and yung pagtransfuse ng blood na may HIV, or semen na may HIV or even paglagay ng skin graft na may HIV.

Title: Re: the doctor is in....
Post by: mang juan on February 18, 2011, 11:28:28 AM
hmm.. pag mainit ang lugar, tinatry ng system natin na palamigin ang temp ng katawan by evaporating the water in form of perspiration. So, tinutulungan ng skin ang kidney by sharing its work of cleaning the body in hot weather by perspiration.

hintayin natin ang reply ng PGG docs for other info.  ;D

ADH stands for anti-diuretic hormone.

- prematurity
- pumutok yung bag of waters tapos hindi pa pinapanganak si baby for more than 18 hours

:-) as far as I know, wala naman itong effect sa growth and development ng bata. I may be wrong pero yan ang naaalala ko. Hehehe!

Headache During Sex: Serious or Harmless?

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

For the past year my boyfriend has been getting headaches after sex. He describes them as pulsating with a lot of pressure from the top of his head to his eyes. They used to come infrequently, now he has them after every orgasm. What are some possible causes and treatments for this problem?

Signed,

Both hurting.

Dear Both,

Since your boyfriend's sex headaches have been going on for a year, they are probably benign coital headaches (see explanation below). But, because they're getting steadily worse, he needs to see a physician. Here's why:

ARE SEX HEADACHES SERIOUS OR HARMLESS?

There are basically two types of sex headaches:

The first, and most common, is the benign coital headache, which tends to occur on a regular basis during or after sex, and is relatively harmless.

The second type is the "new onset" severe headache during sex. This is a first time headache, which the patient generally characterizes as the worst headache of their life. This type of sex headache is a serious emergency until proven otherwise. Such a headache is often due to an acute brain hemorrhage or other serious condition. Fortunately, this type of first onset headache is fairly unusual, but when it does occur it can represent a life threatening emergency, which requires emergency evaluation and treatment.

BENIGN COITAL HEADACHES:

Benign coital headaches tend to occur before or during orgasm, and may persist for a period of minutes, or hang on for hours after sex. It can occur in both men and women. Although benign coital or orgasmic headaches are very painful, and obviously limit sexual enjoyment, they present no other acute threat. They are thought to result from muscle contraction, and/or blood vessel dilation, in the head and neck during sex.

WHAT CAN BE DONE FOR BENIGN COITAL HEADACHES?

Once a serious cause, such as a brain bleed, has been ruled out, benign sex headaches can be relatively easy to treat. Sometimes abstaining from sex for a couple of weeks is all that's required. If that doesn't work, then a physician may need to prescribe medication to be taken an hour or so before sex in order to prevent the onset of the headache. Beta blockers, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS), and calcium channel blockers have all been used with some success. Benign sexual headaches also seem to respond well to a decrease in stress. The good news is that with or without treatment, benign sexual headaches tend to resolve all on their own.

BRAIN HEMORRHAGE:

Brain hemorrhage may occur during sex when an abnormal blood vessel bursts, causing an acute hemorrhage over the surface of the brain (subarachnoid hemorrhage), or within the brain (intracerebral hemorrhage).

A noncontrast CT scan of the brain, which is available in most medium sized and larger emergency departments, will detect a high proportion of brain hemorrhages. But the noncontrast CT scan isn't perfect. A spinal tap (lumbar puncture) will sometimes pick up hemorrhage missed by the CT. If the CT and lumbar puncture are both nondiagnostic, and the headache is clinically suspicious for a bleed, then an invasive procedure called an arteriogram (cerebral angiogram) may be needed to make the diagnosis.

Brain bleeds comprise only a tiny percentage of all headaches, but if they are not diagnosed and treated emergently, the result can be catastrophic disability or death. That's why doctors maintain a high index of suspicion about explosive onset severe headaches, and why anyone with such a headache needs an emergency evaluation by a physician.

HOW CAN SEX CAUSE A BRAIN BLEED?

Brain bleeds, often result from the rupture of an abnormal blood vessel such as an aneurysm or AVM (arteriovenous malformation).

An aneurysm is an abnormal artery, with bulging walls, somewhat like the bulging area we sometimes see in an overinflated tire inner tube. An AVM is a tangle of abnormal communications between arteries and veins. The walls of aneurysms and AVM's are weak, compared to normal vessels, so elevated blood pressure can cause them to leak or burst. The liberation of blood around or into the brain immediately produces the explosive headache.

Since transient heart rate and blood pressure elevations occur during sex, and the walls of aneurysms and AVM's are weak, then it isn't too surprising that they sometimes rupture or leak during sex.

People are usually not aware that they have an aneurysm or AVM. It may be present for their entire life and cause no symptoms at all, until the day it leaks or ruptures.

SENTINEL BLEED: THE FIRST HEADACHE MAY GO AWAY

Sometimes brain bleeds start with a tiny leak, which may temporarily seal itself off, after which the headache may temporarily resolve. This is called a "sentinel bleed." A sentinel bleed is an important warning sign of impending rupture. It's crucial to recognize and diagnose a sentinel bleed because it provides a window of opportunity to identify and repair an aneurysm before it completely ruptures causing brain damage, or death.

SUMMARY:

On the whole, sex headaches are more often harmless than serious. But, the problem is that a small percentage is due to a serious life threatening emergency, such as a brain bleed. That's why a new onset headache during sex needs an emergency evaluation by a physician. As is often the case in medicine, the percentage chance of a bleed may be small, but if it happens to you, then it's 100%.

How bout ung ribs mo? nakalitaw na ba? Pag nakalitaw eh payat kana nun.

Anung sukat ng waist line mo? I was 26 nung payat ako.. Ngayon eh 32.

malaki ang probability na hindi yun appendix. kung medyo upper part yan, probably related sa biliary tree. or perhaps just mere abdominal colic lang pala. :-)
ano specifics ng abdominal pain mo? saan exactly sa right side? how intense is the pain? how do you describe the pain? tuwing kelan mo napapansin na sumasakit? paano nawawala ang sakit? problema sa pag-ihi at pagdumi, meron ba?

Sir bandang ibaba ng rib cage(right) ko yung sumasakit eh. Yung pain nya is parang may pinipisil na muscle, minsan parang napapatigil ako. Alam nyo yung parang kapag tumatakbo ka or nage-excercise tapos sumasakit yung tagiliran?

congratulations ulit sa pagiging new dad ram!

thanks!

actually, hindi mawawalan ng bisa.... BUT, there are certain medications na kapag ininuman mo ng alcoholic drink kahit hours after pa, magcacause ng adverse effects sa katawan ng tao. from dizziness to seizures, to chest pain, seizure, infections, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. :-) kaya to be safe, if you're currently taking medications, wag pagsabayan ng pag inom ng alak. :-)

I suggest brad, tawag ka dun sa taas. Sabihin mo sa kanya yung problema or nararamdaman mo.

I used to suppress din dati yung depression ko.
Feeling so helpless.

Wala akong makausap.

You just have to know talaga yung pinanggagalingan ng depression mo.

Title: Re: the doctor is in....
Post by: bobbylost on July 12, 2012, 10:17:06 AM

By the way, kapag and depression sinusuppress, parang tinatago mo
lang siya somewhere. Habang tumatagal naiipon  yan.

Question for the doctor!

Im turning 21 this November pero parang weak na si junior ko and its freaking me out. I tried having sex with someone, oo matigas pero di nasusustain. Dyahe to. Pangalawa, kulang ako sa tulog this past few months kasi nagwwork ako at the same time study. Ano kaya best advise for me, doc? THANK YOU in advance sa sagot! -_-

More of like, parang napilitan ka lang.

Its probably stress and exhaustion. Go sleep and give your body to rest.
Cut down on sex and masturbation too and give you body time to not get used to it. Take a week off from it. Testosterone will self regulate and boost after a time.
Its good to cut down on smoking but i doubt this is the cause.

And libido is mostly a matter of the temporal lobe too :P

1.)I would like to ask kung ano mga bawal kapag may MVP(mitral valve prolapse)?? di ko kasi natanong dati sa doctor...

1. Hmmm, I think a cardiologist consult is warranted for this. Depende kasi kung gaano kalala yung prolapse at 2d echo results mo , Kasi puwedeng sobrang negligable prolapse or something that results to regurgitation (backflow of blood). So far yung mga literature na nababasa ko maganda yung prognosis, may risk pa rin of arrythmia or sudden cardiac death.

2. May kasama bang ibang symptoms? Does it feel better sitting down? Any history of unprotected sex? Fever? Any swelling?
Surgeon titingin nyan preferrably a urologist.  Differential nyan puwedeng orchitis, varicocoele, or worse torsion. If it worsens have it seen asap, otherwise you may lose your balls.

1. go follow whatever your doctor tells you then.

2. consult urologist, mukhang varicocoele.
If you don't ask for help then nothing happens.
Tell someone you can trust with. I suggest telling your dad first, since he may care about your family jewels and the future of your family. :P
However, if you're financially capable, go directly to a urologist.

At least you know now, and you're better informed.

no idea how much, ask your urologist.
Depende kasi kung gaano mo matitiis yang pain at tsaka kung gaano mo iririsk yung balls mo.  Puwede kasing slight pain lang, to decreased sperm count, to infertility yan.

If you have a lot of money, you can do it laparoscopic (mahal sobra pero less visible scars).

i think embolization can be done in the bigger hospitals. St. lukes, cardinal, etc.
