2014 Mid-Year Report: The 10 Best Manila Ramen Restaurants
Source: http://insights.looloo.com/best-manila-ramen-mid-2014/

With the "ber" months right around the corner, we're releasing our last mid-year report for 2014 — this time listing the 10 best Manila ramen restaurants based on reviews sent in through the looloo app for the first 6 months of 2014.

If you've been following the ramen trend at all these past few months, you'll see a lot of familiar names on the list but we can almost guarantee this list won't be the same by year's end... rumor has it that the much-hyped Ippudo Ramen branch at SM Megamall will be opening really soon!

Practice your susuru skills and put on your stretchiest eating pants, here's the Manila noodle rundown you've been waiting for.

10. Kenji Tei Ramen House
45 Reviews
Average Rating: 3.92
*all branches

Offering a bit more variety than most Manila ramen restaurants on the list, Kenji Tei offers both noodles AND "traditional" Japanese offerings like sushi, sashimi, donburi, and even a few teriyaki dishes. These, hand in hand with over 10 ramen variants, make the place worth visiting more than once, if only to find that go-to dish that really hits the spot.

9. Wrong Ramen
62 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.03

Wrong Ramen, BGC, Taguig, Philippines
Wrong Ramen is the hipster of the bunch, and for good reason. If you're looking for authentic and traditional ramen in Manila, they'll be the first to tell you this place isn't for you. Love 'em or hate 'em, this renegade branding approach is what put them on the map, masterfully treading the fine line between displaying the culinary prowess behind their noodle creations and making fun of themselves (their instagram account is hilarious). Looking for something different? Well, F.U.! No really, try their "FU Ramen," it's got bacon and Spam!

8. Mitsuyado Sei-men
77 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.07

Mitsuyado Sei-men, Jupiter Street, Makati, Philippines
The only place that specializes in Tsukemen (Japanese dipping noodles), a visit to Mitsuyado Sei-men is a must for anyone who wishes to call himself a ramen/noodle connoisseur. While their lone branch is in Makati, stepping into the place will feel like walking through the streets of old Japan, thanks to some very creative interior design.

7. Hokkaido Ramen Santouka
114 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.10
*all branches

Hokkaido Ramen Santuko, Manila, Philippines
Reviewers laud the place for having "the best of both worlds" as it offers both ramen AND katsu — two of the biggest food trends in the country today, among other Japanese dishes. For those who wish to try both, they offer a number of set meals for diners seeking that extra bit of variety at a ramen joint. Their pork cheeks, which they use in their noodle dishes, are said to the best out there, so be sure not to miss out on them if you get the chance!

6. Hanamaruken Ramen
95 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.17

Hanamaruken Ramen, Trinoma, Philippines
That's probably the concept they started out with when developing their signature dish, the appropriately named "Happiness Ramen." While tonkotsu broth is common among ramen houses, it's the slow-braised soft bone pork rib, born of founder Takaku Arakawa's family's expertise in pork, that'll have you smiling from ear to ear when you try it.

5. Tamagoya Noodle House
38 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.27

Tamagoya Noodle House, Marikina, Philippines
If you're looking to get the most bang for your buck and you just happen to live close to Marikina/Antipolo, you might want to drop by this hole-in-the-wall noodle joint that straddles the border of these two cities. It's probably a given that you won't get the same super rich flavors and expensive ingredients you would at other places, but when you see their prices (no ramen dish costs more than ₱200!), you'll see why people happily throw generous ratings and reviews their way.

4. Kichitora of Tokyo
94 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.27
*all branches

Kichitora of Tokyo, Manila, Philippines
By choosing to go with primarily chicken-based broths for their ramen dishes versus the traditional pork, Kichitora says that their menu offerings are actually healthier than others. Not that anyone who's at a ramen joint is probably looking for diet-friendly options, but it's definitely a nice-to-have either way. The best part is that this doesn't take anything away from flavor — people love their Paitan Ramen! We've got our fingers crossed that they open a 3rd branch soon! ...and a 4th, 5th, 10th.

3. Ukokkei Ramen Ron
99 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.30
*all branches

Ukokkei Ramen Ron, Manila, Philippines
Once the undisputed king of ramen restaurants in the country, it seems Ukokkei has had to take a step back to make room for the trendy new entrants in the ramen war. Taking the 3rd spot though, means that they haven't fallen very far back — they still offer some of the best noodle dishes out there and their Tantanmen, of which they only serve 20 bowls a day, is still one of, if not the, most sought-after broth-filled noodle bowls out there.

2. Ramen Nagi
342 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.36
*all branches

Ramen Nagi, Manila, Philippines
If popularity and number of reviews bore more weight in this list, Ramen Nagi would've taken the top spot by a landslide. With only a fraction of a point keeping it from taking the top spot overall, their "kings" (all their dishes are named as such) are in for a bit more of a battle if they want to take home the crown. One huge advantage they have though, is that their aggressive expansion (they now have 4 Ramen Nagi branches!) has made it much easier for people to taste their dishes over the competition's!

1. Ramen Yushoken
74 Reviews
Average Rating: 4.47

Ramen Yushoken, Molito, Alabang, Philippines
Those knee-deep in the Manila foodie scene have come to expect nothing but the best when Elbert Cuenca (of Elbert's Steak Room fame) is involved, and those expectations have again been met by Ramen Yushoken. Their ramen recipes boast of a rich heritage with ties to "Master of Ramen" Yamagishi Kazuo's annointed "son," Koji Tashiro. The ratings and reviews given by people only affirm its strong flavor pedigree. Taking the top spot on this list, it's no coincidence that "Yushoken" roughly translates to "Champion House."

;D

Wow daming suggestions! ^ I heard ok daw yung Yushoken. Is is true na bawal mag take out from yushoken? why? haha

you heard true and yes they do not allow TO except for non-ramen items. ramen and most japanese food needs to be eaten immediately for maximum satisfaction  ;D

wrong ramen, being not a real jap ramen joint, allows take out. trust me, cold or reheated ramen is not enjoyable.

if you guys do try yushoken, order their gyoza too. its a must.
