The importance of getting a good haircut

Some guys are not aware that getting a good haircut is very important. Unlike girls who could do lots of stuff to look good, us men only have three major areas that we could improve on: First is by making our bodies fit, second is by improving one’s face by minimizing acne and third is by getting a great haircut. Interestingly, a lot of us tend to neglect the latter which is by far the easiest thing to do.

So why is it important for guys to get a good haircut? Here are the top 4 reasons:

1. Haircut determines your personality

Your hair is as important as any part of your body. It gives you personality and character. Want to look like an emo? A rockstar? A model? Or perhaps a sportstar? Have your hair done and you’d surely look like the character you most want to be like.

2. Haircut shows your outlook in life

Believe it or not, your hairstyle projects your outlook in life. Too messy a hair and you will look like you’re stressed. Too neat a hair and you will look like an optimistic professional. Too stylish a hair and you’d look younger than your age.

3. Haircut shows your attractiveness

There are some haircuts which look good on others but don’t look good on you and vice versa. This is because the shape of your face will determine whether a certain hairstyle will look good on you or not. So choosing one recommended by the barber or stylist is essential.

4. Haircut can make you a headturner

Related to #3, if your haircut is generally impressive, you will become a headturner as you walk along. I don’t want to sound proud but just this weekend, when I got myself a nice haircut, I noticed a pretty girl at the mall who took a second look at me (and my hair). It was really flattering and it feels good.

As you can see, haircuts are often ignored by many of us (I included). But after having my hair done this weekend, I am happy to say that my perspective on styling my hair has really changed a lot.

  • I believe that a nice haircut adds pogi points but apparently, it doesnt work for me. I have a rather “unruly” hair and it is hard to come up with a design or style for my hair. It will only be either be semikal or “bird’s nest” style. I am just apprehensive about getting a hair relax or rebond treatment coz it might add up to my hair problem. And besides, the hairline is somewhat receding already. hehehe

  • Agree.

Since I was in High School, I became vain on the style of my hair with lots of credits to my elder brother which influenced me on using either gel or wax. Nakakatakot lang minsan coz I dont want to grow old bald. Who wants to be, right?

    Anyways, nice article.

  • vanity is one sin i commit…

since high school, i hello i try to keep my hair and skin well groomed. rebonding isnt “in”yet then so i have my hair relax to keep neat=)

i see no wrong about guys having to go to a salon to have their hair be in good shape.

  • thanks bugITs and Patricio.

    doc/Janus – great hairstyles will make others take a second-look! guaranteed. 😉

  • Janus,

Any hairstylist will do. Salons are good because they know what’s the latest trend and they know which type of haircut will best fit the shape of your face. 😀

btw, how did you learn of Pinoy Guy Guide? It’s nice to see you around. 🙂

  • Chris,

I was “googling” around trying to search for the latest hairstyle and I was directed to this site. it’s nice to know that there are pinoy guys who share tips and ideas. Cool site! Keep it up. 🙂

  • Nice Site!

I really want to have a longer hair than the usual hairstyle i have right now. But my school doesn’t permit hair that touches the ears and the collar of our uniform. Have any suggestions?

  • about this getting a goood haircut…
i admit im not into it….
coz i do love wearing cap most of time, thats the reason why i got the ugliest hair in the office kasi wavy na kasi but before my hair is so straight when i was in college…
now i realize that having a good haircut willl help me look good.
punta ako ng salon mamaya after work….
    hehheheh….

  • Hi Chris…Nice insights…

If it’s not too much to ask, can u also post some advise on what particular hairstyles fit certain shapes of the face?

    Thanks much!

  • hey im trimming or cutting my own hair… with 5 years of training.lol…
natutunan ko yan sa isang website… galing nga kasi hindi ko na kinakelangan pumunta sa barbero o saloon…

  • Going to the barbershop is a big NO NO for me.. Sinisira nila yung porma ng buhok eh…

  • Agree… I feel irritated when I see my hair like a bird’s nest or does not styled the way i wanted to. Bad hair day for me. So fixing my hair took me a lot of time. hehe.

  • @bloody
try using hair clay instead of wax.. great holding power, but the only problem is, it’s difficult to wash it off, you have to at least shampoo twice to get rid of the build up on your hair.

  • any suggestions for having high hairline (receding hair line) curly hair and manipis na hair (believe or not I’m only 21) at ito ang problema ko. any help guys

  • Harold Gomez – I’m not an expert on receding hairline. How about trying hairgrowth shampoos etc?

I have a friend with the same problem. What he did was to have a semikal haircut everytime. Not bad actually. He can pull it off. Have you tried it?

  • for me kahit anong style ng gupit kahit sakinn na pangit tingnan. sa nag dadala nalang. kung may confidence ka sa gupit mo.

  • Great article and good points. Key to all of those points, is that you really need to have a good barber to make it work. Many of the chains hire straight out of cosmo school. Sure, you pay a little less, but the results of the haircut usually reflect that.
