Top 5 Grooming Products for Asian and Filipino Men

I got this first hand info from a press release which says that more and more guys in Asia (and in the Philippines in particular) are buying grooming products.

The study by Kantar Worldpanel shows that aside from us guys wanting to please women, being well-groomed makes us feel better about ourselves.

From the study across Asia, 84% of male respondents said that they are using grooming products because it makes them feel good about themselves. While 64% of males in the survey said that they are using grooming products to impress women and a close 62% say that they disagree with the common notion that grooming is only a “women’s thing”.

A few more interesting details reveal that:

  • 72% of guys agree that grooming is important for their jobs
  • 67% believe that grooming is an indication of a man’s social status
  • 85% of men in Metro Manila strongly agree that looking good is important in their careers.

So what are the top 5 grooming products for men? The study split the survey into two: one for Asian men in general and another for Filipino men in particular.

Let’s take a look at the intriguing details below:

Top 5 Grooming Products for Asian Men

  1. Blades/Razors (92%)
  2. Shampoo (91%)
  3. Bar Soap (72%)
  4. Skincare (70%)
  5. Shower Gel (55%)

Top 5 Grooming Products for Filipino Men

  1. Bar Soap (94%)
  2. Shampoo (92%)
  3. Blades/Razors (88%)
  4. Deodorants (73%)
  5. Colognes (71%)

In the survey, the Philippines registered the highest usage of bar soap, deodorant and fragrances. Maybe because of the hot climate here but I guess it’s true that we all love to smell good for women, right? The study also concluded that Asian men are most conscious about their bad breath and acne.

It is a very enlightening study that clearly tells us that we all want to look and smell better, not just because we want to impress women but also for our careers and to feel good about ourselves. I just wonder though why hair gels and hair wax did not make it to the top 5 in the list? Perhaps it’s somewhere in top 10? What do you think?

  • Me must haves; Shampoo, conditioner, bar sop (sheep and goat), shaver, shaving foam, after shave balm, petroleum jelly, cologne, perfume, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, potassium alum, hair wax and hair mist, and the most important of all is paper towel.

I do not use alcohol it makes me sneeze, what I do is frequent hand washing. What I do have in my pocket are pocket cologne and perfume , paper towel.

  • In my opinion, 99% of Filipinos who uses facial cleansers were largely influenced by the late great Rico Yan. I think that commercial he had during the late 90’s started this whole ‘I-think- I- should- get- one- of- these -facial- thingy’ consciousness in Pinoys.

For me, must haves would be: facial cleanser, aftershave, hand sanitizer, deodorant, mouthwash and hair wax. Everything else is just an afterthought.

  • Ivan – you got a point. 🙂

Jhun – great stuff. I’m more a fan of alcohol then gel-based hand sanitizers. It makes me feel cleaner.

Jessie – haha yes. In addition to that, many are influenced by the ads on grooming we see on TV and billboards these days.

  • is there any product available in the market that could help me lessen the dark spot in my “HITA” part…i cant wear trunks anymore since i got “PILAS” it leave me a darker shade out there…and i am not comfortable wearing trunks in beach or whenever my friends and family go swimming and i stop joining bikini open since then…its been decades now and i fail to find that could brighten it to make it even with the rest of my skin…

  • hey there albert.. so you’re saying that the dark spot’s from the previous lesion to the area before?

for hyperpigmented lesions caused by previous injury.. you may apply topical hydroquinone creams 2x/day until the desired color.. you may use it in combination with tretinoin.. hydroquinone+tretinoin creams are available in the market.. however, if you develop itchiness or burning sensation from the product, use mono hydroquinone instead 🙂

you may add-on whitening creams containing niacinamide as well..

  • Hi Chris,

What clothes to wear for you to look taller? I’m only 5’5. What are the do’s and dont’s in picking clothes for short guys like me? Thanks!

  • Hi sir Chris Very informative article! Sir I would like to ask on what type of perfume is recommended for guys who have active lifestyles and would last long enough in this hellish summer weather. I have been considering to getting those adidas colognes because they are easy to find and crazy cheap, not really a fan of designer brands, the only problem is I have no idea how to choose. i have also try going trough those fragrance websites but it so complicated with all of those notes, accords and other jargon that it actually didn’t help at all. the reviews are also done by foreigners who live in a very different climate and their taste is so sophisticated it doesn’t help as well. So I’m pretty much stuck on a single fragrance. Please help…

P.S. your blog is awesome a saving grace for the kingdom of man… thank you!

  • Hi Roidan,

    Welcome to PGG bro.

I’m currently using Aero 87 fragrance. It’s relatively cheap at 995 Pesos and definitely one of the best smelling fragrances fit for the summer season.

You can find it in Aeropostale’s stores. Here is a photo from my Instagram account:

Tell me how it goes for you.

  • Bro i got a lot of acne scar( black spots) and i wanna lose those. So tell me which product should i use?

  • I have had bad breath, lost my job due to it. tried to find a new job but it’s very hard once you stink up the ociffe. I had tonsil stones and awful bad breath. My friend told me to check Oraltech Labs advice as it got rid of his bad breath and his post nasal drip. I’ve been following Oraltech Labs advice for about 4 months now and I feel much better, also people are not avoiding me anymore so it seems to have cured my bad breath as well.
